I read the article. What they miss is that Porsche is a brand and Corvette is a model. So make a high performance Chevrolet SUV but call it something else. Porsche didn’t call their SUV a 911.
GM has run Corvette into the ground through their greed.
in 1966 a Chevy impala started at $3,041
a 1966 Corvette started at $4,084
a 34% premium
in 2019 a Chevy impala starts at $28,020
a 2019 Corvette starts at $55,900
a 100% premium
a gi shipping off to 'nam could (barely) afford the nut on a vette payment in 66; and a vette at that low price was so much more choice.
a newly minted college grad would have to stretch, and realize they shouldn't even consider, a vette in 2019 at a 100% premium to basic transportation.
pure greed: damn little R&D on a 66 year old pushrod V8. damn little R&D on a 66 year old fiberglass body on frame, except to try to eliminate the frame. damn little R&D on a Turbo Hydromatic from the sixties, except to FIU real good.
just pure greed.
and the wheel is coming around again to bite GM on the butt.
so yes, GM will eventually lipstick the Corvette name on every whoremobile in Detroit to make another buck. Cause GM priced themselves right out of the youngster market for Corvette sportscars with their jack-priced greed on every unit of Corvette made for the past few decades.
It's a damn shame.

I would think GM would need to spin the corvette from Chevy and make it a separate car if they want to make a suv or a 4 door similar to what Porsche has done.
