Try it, you may like it...

7th gear along with Eco mode on the highway gives me great fuel mileage, why someone would hate something that saves you money I have no idea.

I use 7th every day on the freeways out west... when I first got the Vette I was a little annoyed by all the rowing ... but after 5 years of daily driving I'm perfectly used to it... plus the gas mileage is great!!

Whats to hate about 36 MPG @ 80 MPH, 1400 RPM, Some neighboring states even have higher speed limits than Montana. It is hard not to go faster.

My 2 cents,Mike

Don't hate it, but don't need it. 6th is really plenty... or they could have spread the same range of ratios between "only" 6 gears and it would have been fine.

Yup, maybe hate is too strong a word. 7th is a useless gear (to me). As far as i know, there is only 2 cars with 7 gears manual. There is a reason why most manual are 6 speed, i think that is the sweet spot.

How on earth are you getting 36mpg?? On a 800 mile trip all I managed was 19.

I would guess the 1400 RPM is the answer.

I agree, 6 speed is a good symmetrical sweet spot. Almost seems like someone on the design team just wanted to one-up everyone else... hey, let's have *7* gears! But with LT torque so many speeds are just not necessary.

Don't know how you guys get that kind of mileage. My C5 gets a average of 23, C6 20,C7 19. I don't drive them hard either. Oh well.

High MPG numbers are coming off the best last 50 miles or something. City driving I get 18 or so, on the highway, my best last 50 has been 32 MPG I have the A6 with the Z51 gearing so my MPGs will be lower. If you use instant MPG, you can tag a 99 if you lift off the pedal going downhill! If I'm moving and doing 35 on level ground, I can get a 30 something on Instant if I don't need to increase speed on hit an incline.

Why is the auto crowd always knocking the manual guys? If your physically unable to drive a stick the auto is a great option. I don't can what anyone drives but you must understand that us manual only guys have a passion for them that cannot be filled with a auto. For myself the only thing in life that makes me smile like I am 16 years old is rowing through the gears. The only problem we have is our beloved three pedal cars are going away.

Because the manual crowd is constantly insulting the auto guys. An unfortunate dynamic in both directions.
