I switched gears from the 3.42 to 4.10.I recently went on a trip to Florida using I-95.I would be in 7th gear doing 80.Before I went with a lower gear I would need to go to 6th if I wanted it to get out of it’s own way.Now doing 80 in 7th it feels like it’s in 6th.If I do drop it down to 6th it takes off.At speeds 70 or more I use 7th.
I bet 1st is so much fun now. Coming from a C6Z I really feel like 1st is too short.
I thought the same thing until I took it on a long road trip from SF Bay area California to Seattle Washington. At speed 7th gear makes lots of sense. I never broke 100 but mostly went between 75 and 95. Made it there in just over 10 hours in 7th gear most of the way. Got 19-21 MPG as well.
What gauge is that in the lower right? Voltmeter? Mine is on the lower left...
Ha...I started with a C3 4-speed and went to a C5 6-speed (with 2 family vehicles with 5-speeds inbetween). Our 2 family vehicles (Subaru's) now have 6-speeds, and I'm just waiting for delivery of my C7 7-speed next month...so will see how it goes. I think when the C7 came out GM was trying to match Porsche on the 7 gears. Hats off to them for this. If the C8 and beyond doesn't offer a manual, this will be my last Vette (fingers crossed that they will...as I will be truly sad if this has to be the case).
People are never happy 😀 I remember a while back when lot of them complained about a lack of 7th gear in BMW M , now we have it in our vettes so it's good to use them at cruising speed for bigger mileage, I did however mentioned earlier that it causes the transmission to cramp a bit causing more difficulty in engaging to 1st by shifting all the way left.
I've used every gear I can in the manual transmission. My C6 only had 6 but I ran in 6th at 45 MPH. You can accelerate slowly in top gear but I agree, any need for a quick response will require downshifting. That is the nature of the word "MANUAL" transmission. My A6 runs in 5th and 6th around town so I know it can be done.

I don't use 7th either because I don't have it, but this reminds me once where I hypothetically was in 6th ( I only drive in M) cruising at 80ish in a hypothetical western state. Mr.owc6 was on a working vaca, and had his head buried in his laptop. I slowly brought it up to 140, tapped him on the shoulder and said "look." He had no idea. It is doable in a high gear, but you can't mash it and expect much.
You have to downshift to ever get any pep at any speed. Or if you drive in D it will downshift for you when you mash it.

Quoted to capture the moment.
Gonna' have to refer to you as Leadfoot Lisa from now on, huh?
Tone of the thread says you can use all of the gears if you understand what sounds an engine makes when you ask for too much acceleration from all 7 of your gears. You can get knock in 4th if you do the wrong thing with the gas pedal/speed combination. Use all the gears folks, they are there to use and this car is a torque monster. You'd be surprised at what you can do in the higher gears if you use common sense and a modicum of foot control. Throttle to the floor is not the correct operation mode in the higher gears.

How on earth are you getting 36mpg?? On a 800 mile trip all I managed was 19.
I don't know about 36, but you can easily flirt with 26-27 hitting a steady 75-85MPH in 7th with Eco Mode on (last year, I hit about 30mpg). As I stated earlier, I'm not all about gas mileage considering the areas I drive in, but when I'm on a 200+ mile road trip, I'm not peeling out; I have nothing to prove, and there's no reason to gun it on a turnpike. Might as well kick in the Eco Mode for a long drive while in 7th and stretch that buck. And I still got random thumbs up during my recent trip last week. They don't care what "mode" or what gear I'm in. And 7th gear might not be for everyone, but at least the option is there. I'm all about options as long as it's not a detriment to the brand.
I avoid 7th just because of the drone from the exhaust in track mode when you touch the gas under 80. I would use it on a long highway trip but would have to set the exhaust to touring to fix that.

Same here. Best on a highway trip was 33 MPG over a 50 mile stretch.
During a full tank run I once went 457 miles and got 28.7 MPG while averaging 70 MPH
I guess 36 MPG would be possible (in theory) if only doing like 45 MPH in 7th. Drafting behind an semi or SUV would help too
