Simple question....Is the Navigation Update worth the money? I just got an email with a special offer $99.00 I live in the Tampa Bay area and new streets are made almost daily with all the new housing developments that are being built. I have a 2016 Vert that I got in Aug of 2015...I never had the Apple/Andriod update...now they want $165 to do it.
I'm actually a bit pissed off about this. Just six months ago they were pushing the new 2019 update which was also on sale. I bought it mainly do to the unreliability of the Apple Carplay. I've had it crap out in the middle of en-route to a location and was not able to get it back working unless I turned off the car.
Well if I knew they were coming out with a 2020 version in six months, I would not have bought it. If it was a year between releases, well ok. But six months. What a rip off!

I purchased the Nav update last December for the $99 special. My '14 still had the original map load in the car and IMO, the 2019 update was well worth the money. My Nav system has worked much better since the update. If you still have the original maps in your system, they are at least 4 years old so if it were me, I would get the update.
After some expensive and painful experience with the "update" not including major changes that were YEARS OLD, I decided I MIGHT update every three to four years, and use my iPhone for assistance in strange areas...
There's many alternatives as mentioned.
But if you like using the Factory NAV it's worth it for $99.00 ..
I like the Factory NAV and updated it in my 2016 Coupe in June before a trip to FL.
I noticed 3 different destinations and random roads that are now in the map that weren't listed before.
To each their own
Is it "worth" it? Heck If I know. But at $99, I don't care about $99 if I update it every other year... Or every 3 years.. It's nice to say it's updated if you sell it... It might mean you care about the car a little bit...
How to I get the $99 special for my 2014 that has never been updated. I generally use Waze but sometimes I need to use my phone for other things and would like to use the car Nav when I want with better confidence then I do now. It's not horrible but I love Waze. That said, is there a link someone can provide or forward the email or do can I just call dealer and mention I heard about a $99 Nav update?
Thanks! My 2014 has the original maps as well and it would be nice to update for a reasonable price of $99 so I Just Ordered and thanks for providing the link! The instructions says it takes about 50 Minute to install and the car must be running so I have to make sure tank is full! LOL

In a word - NO. Use Android Auto or Car Play. It's much better and always up to date without any cost.
IMHO, these are NOT viable options, I happen to prefer the base Navi unit, instead of wires hanging everywhere and getting in the way.
I update every 2-3 years depending on travel needs and local road changes.
It says to install it while car is running but not to drive it. But I am not going to just have the car sit in the garage for an hour running lol, Mine delivered today, so I will install it this week but drive it for the hour it says it needs.

It says that but after you begin the process it says on the screen ok to drive. And it doesn't take an hour. Much less.
Sure it's worth it. If you travel frequently to unknown areas it is pretty good to do so. I won't debate the other options. I'm liking the factory nav more and more after looking at my red failure display on the Android Auto. I have tried different phones, different cables and different C7s, and other cars with my AA and the "unplug and reconnect" message is getting a little too much. I didn't mind it happening every few days or so, but it is getting a little annoying now.
I find the factory NAV to be at least reliable for getting me around and don't have to worry about annoying error messages. I know it has some shortcomings, but all in all it does a good job for me. $99 is only two tanks of gas.
