I liked it for the remote door lock/unlock/remote start through the app. when it was hot I'd remote start the car way remotely and it would be cool before I got there. now they took that feature away and you have to pay for it. screw GM and onstar.
Install the myChevrolet app on your phone. It's free and it will do a remote start for you, Give it a try. I think you'll like it.

All based on individual circumstances. I wouldn't have onstar, but my sister has it. She's 80 years old and drives a C7 and it gives her peace of mind. It has worked like a champ for her. I think it is over priced, but if you value the simplicity of it and what if provides, go for it.
I have never used OnStar past a trial period. Not saying it wouldn’t be useful in some situations, but I have emergency road service on my insurance policy and just did not feel like the high cost of OnStar was worth it.
Those that subscribe to the service and feel it is worth the cost, OK with me.
This past July the wife and I were at the Tail of the Dragon and witnessed a man and his grandson drive their Slingshot (3 wheeler) off the side of the road. While I was climbing down to check on them my wife used OnStar to call for help (zero cell coverage up there). OnStar was able to call for help long before anyone could have driven back to Deal's Gap to call for help.
Will I ever have a incident like that again? who knows.( that was only the second time in 3 years that I used it)...much like a gun, I'd rather have one and not need it, than need one and not have it.
I also pay for the XM radio service in the car and updated the maps, why? because I paid a lot of money for my car and I want EVERYTHING in it to work.
Just my 2 cents.
PS. the grandson was fine. the grandfather was very hurt and had to be life-flighted to the Hospital. The grandfather had just rented the slingshot an hour before the wreck.

I thought the mychevy app / remote key fob functions only work with an OnStar subscription... I ask because when my trial ended, the key fob buttons in the app were greyed out and were no longer accessible...
Can someone confirm? I would, but I can't because they just gave me 3 months free - so I technically have a "subscription"...
We have bought 4 new vechicles with it, (that includes 2 Vettes) and I do not let the dealers activate it, Its a shame you have to pay for crap you do not want,
FWIW. With XM radio same thing it fades in and out something awful up here in the mountains where I live, I do not even take the free period anymore.
I do get a lot of mail from them offering all sorts of deals on a regular biases, goes direct to the trash can.
another financial "death by a thousand paper cuts" app. 1. On-star connected access, 2. On-star Remote Access plan, 3. On-star Unlimited Access Plan, 4. On-star Safety and Security plan, 5. On-star safety and security plan + remote access, 6. Onstar safety and security + unlimited access. One little app - six different ways to pick your pocket. Then look at all the other leeches slowly draining your life blood: the sirius options, your cable options, your streaming options, your cell options, your internet options, your burglar alarm option packages, your service contracts, Sheee-it, add "just one more package improvement at only $9.99/month" and pretty soon you are covering the nut on a Bugattii Veyron monthly payment; but instead its going into all them little leech suckers already latched on to your wallet.
never activated it on six vettes all purchased new. got other plans for my money, like a seventh sports car.

Mine works. I just tried it. I have never have had a paid subscription to OnStar.
Also. Were you trying it with the OnStar app, or the mychevy app?

I've suspended my OnStar service for storage. I usually have the Security and Protection plan running during my subscription. Regardless, I can still start my C7 with the app, even while not subscribed.

Me to. I just unlocked the doors, and previously did a start.
I was using mychevy app - I didnt install the OnStar app cause I never used it...
That is odd those buttons within the app are grayed out (deactivated). Uninstall the mychevy app from your phone and reinstall it. We'll go from there.
Onstar changed the plans so, if you bought the car prior to sometime in 2017 or 2018 IIRC, you would be grandfathered and allowed to use the remote functions via the app under the free "basic" plan until that expires after 10 years. That was a pretty nice feature, it costs $288/year for that on my wife's Acura so On-Star isn't the worst thing out there. I have a 2011 Malibu that I use for snow/rain/teenagers and I can use the key fob buttons on the app for that car with the basic plan at no cost. My 2017 Camaro SS also allowed that with just the free basic service. My 2019 Z06, however, does not allow that unless you pay for the remote access plan. That's likely why some of you can use the remote functions and some of you can not.
I don't pay for it, but every once in a while I receive a report from OnStar regarding my car's status (tire pressure, oil life, etc.). That's kind of nice to get, but - on the other hand - I can get that information straight from my car!
So I'm curious how many of you are using OnStar? I purchased my Corvette in December and initially couldn't access my vehicle on my Chevrolet app because OnStar had my name spelled wrong in their system. Two weeks after purchasing I called to see why my car wasn't showing up. They corrected. (it should also be noted they I have had a previous account with a Camaro I owned a few years ago and my name was never an issue then). Now I find out my dad, same name, same town has been getting my mail from OnStar for promotions ect... I go into my account (free 3 month) and sure enough, they have his address on the account instead of mine. It should also be noted that I have never resided at that address, nor used it for any reason! Now I'm sure if this information was provided by the selling dealer, they had my correct address considering it was in all my paperwork. I called today and cancelled the trial because as I explained, living in Ohio and driving my Corvette in the winter doesn't seem practical and although the Service is "free" for 3 month, I wouldn't really have an opportunity to use it. I was also informed that unless I called to cancel in March it would automatically renew. (Imagine if the address wasn't corrected and I was never notified it was ready to renew)
Needless to say, I have to wonder how a Service provided can be trusted when they can't even get my information on my account correct. What are the advantages on OnStar? And yes, I realize they are notified should an accident occur, but is that the only advantage?
Chime in!
Since 2000, I have owned three GM Vehicles with on star and others with on star type systems and I never used any of them. I don’t like the way that on star does business. My wife picked up a G8 that we bought and gave on star my credit card number. So at the end of the trial period, they auto paid for the next year. When I called to cancel, they refused my request because my wife started the account even though it was on my credit card. After she called and I put a payment dispute on the card, on star closed the account. I refused the three month trial when I got my C7 because they wanted a cc number. They are like Sirius XM or worse.
FWIW I don't use OnStar and never have. However I like getting the monthly report on my car's 'condition'. This was to end next month, as the car will be five years old. However a week ago I received an offer from OnStar to continue the service for another year for free. I agreed to the offer.
I have OnStar on all 3 of my vehicles. The 2015 Vette, the 2015 GMC Terrain and the 2003 Tahoe. I have the Protection Plan which provides automatic crash response which works very well as I found out in September 2018. That is when I put my Vette into the Turn 10 wall at VIR. Right rear of car hit the wall and I heard the OnStar person announcing their presence and asking if I was OK. The PDR video showed what actually happened. When the car hit the wall it spun completely around while lifting off the ground, while the car was spinning the car announced that it was initiating an OnStar call, then the a ring tone could be heard followed by the OnStar operator answering the phone and asking if I was OK. From the hit until the OnStar operator answered the car's phone call 10 seconds elapsed. I have no memory of that 10 seconds other than what I heard and saw in the video.
OnStar has to be called by your car before it provides a crash response. If a car is calling OnStar while somebody is driving it aggressively there is something wrong with the car's electronics not with OnStar.
