So I'm curious how many of you are using OnStar? I purchased my Corvette in December and initially couldn't access my vehicle on my Chevrolet app because OnStar had my name spelled wrong in their system. Two weeks after purchasing I called to see why my car wasn't showing up. They corrected. (it should also be noted they I have had a previous account with a Camaro I owned a few years ago and my name was never an issue then). Now I find out my dad, same name, same town has been getting my mail from OnStar for promotions ect... I go into my account (free 3 month) and sure enough, they have his address on the account instead of mine. It should also be noted that I have never resided at that address, nor used it for any reason! Now I'm sure if this information was provided by the selling dealer, they had my correct address considering it was in all my paperwork. I called today and cancelled the trial because as I explained, living in Ohio and driving my Corvette in the winter doesn't seem practical and although the Service is "free" for 3 month, I wouldn't really have an opportunity to use it. I was also informed that unless I called to cancel in March it would automatically renew. (Imagine if the address wasn't corrected and I was never notified it was ready to renew)
Needless to say, I have to wonder how a Service provided can be trusted when they can't even get my information on my account correct. What are the advantages on OnStar? And yes, I realize they are notified should an accident occur, but is that the only advantage?

I have never used OnStar past a trial period. Not saying it wouldn’t be useful in some situations, but I have emergency road service on my insurance policy and just did not feel like the high cost of OnStar was worth it.
Those that subscribe to the service and feel it is worth the cost, OK with me.
Simply go to Compare plans to see the features of each plan. Amongst the features offered are automatic crash response, stolen vehicle recovery assistance, remote lock/unlock, etc. For the most part the prices are way too high for what they are offering.
Do you have a cell phone of recent vintage and who with C7 doesn't? OnStar does absolutely nothing for you. We naively agreed to the 'free' OnStar trial at delivery. But free came with its own cost. It was a tedious ordeal by phone to cancel. We all make mistakes, you can learn from ours.

I guess I have to be the dissenting opinion here. I like the vehicle theft and accident response features. It’s something you’l forget until you need it. I was rear ended in September, thank God I was not injured and conscious...On Star was on my car speakers less than 10 seconds after impact, They wanted to know if anyone needed medical assistance and had already sent police to the scene, staying on the line until they arrived. They also reached out to my wife to let her know what was happening. They were more help than hinderance and was glad they helped to manage an otherwise chaotic situation.
They have several plans, with several features. I have the “security” package. I don’t need their navigation or other features. For me, in that one incident it was worth the $288 annual fee. I don’t know your personal habits, but I’ll bet you spend six bucks a week on something less valuable.
Not trying to change anyone’s mind, just answering the OP’s question.
I liked it for the remote door lock/unlock/remote start through the app. when it was hot I'd remote start the car way remotely and it would be cool before I got there. now they took that feature away and you have to pay for it. screw GM and onstar.

Auto start would be Nice but have a manual. Thought about the accident notification since haven’t been in one for 35 years so might be due. Does seem a bit pricy for what I get. Guess I’ll pass at least until spring when I start driving it. Or not!
You should see the YouTube video of a guy on a track and the Onstar person keeps asking him if he was in an accident and does he need assitance. He was just racing around the track, no accident. He was yelling back at them while he was driving that he's fine, he's on a race track. Ridiculous.
My OnStar is active and I love it. Sometime
last year my dealer’s tech took my car from their shop after hours to “collect some data” while analyzing a trans valve body issue I was having. Between the app and the OnStar rep, we tracked the car to an address. Shortly after relaying the info to the police, my baby was found safe and sound. Thankfully it wasn’t a real theft, but it was a great simulation.
Years ago I had a 2001 Silverado with OnStar. Got into a wreck (not bad enough to initiate them calling me), pushed the button, and they were able to send a tow truck to my exact location without me having to say streets and cross streets and what part of the parking lot I wound up in. And yes now we all have smart phones with GPS mapping built in, but back then, that was pretty awesome.
The modern OnStar setup with the stolen vehicle tracking and shutdown ability is worth it alone for me. The car is more or less irreplaceable, so I would prefer to always be able to keep tabs on it. Which I can from the app on my phone.
Just last month I picked up a nail in the tire on the way to work. I was doing some other work on the car, and noticed it. When I was repairing it, a bunch of air let out and the pressure got down to 15. I plugged it and reset the pressure. But I also immediately got an email from OnStar informing me about the low tire pressure condition. Had I gotten a slow leak, it’s good to know that I would have gotten an email so I would have known to deal with it before leaving work that day.
I have it and its activated I have used it several times. I had an HHR and was in Northern Michigan and all the gauges including tach and speedo. were going crazy the needles were just swinging wildly. They put a tech on the speaker and he informed me that there some problem with the computers talking to each other but I could drive it which was a relief as there wasnt anything around. He said the car would shift hard but be fine. after about 3 hours driving on the highway the gauges started working normally. It was relief to know that things were ok. and on other GM cars just to contact when the check engine light comes I can find out most times what is wrong
No use for it and my sales rep kept pestering me to press the blue button weeks after receiving the car. I pressed the button and told them I did not want it. I assume sales rep gets kick back for everyone that signs up. Spent my whole life without Onstar and somehow managed to get by without it.
Many companies use Fear as buying tactic and OnStar is one of them! If someone steals your car all they have to do is disconnect the battery and your car cannot be tracked. If I need roadside assistance I have a cell phone. One of selling points is unlocking car if you lock your keys in car. Any late model car I've been in with Keyless start will not allow you to lock keys in car. Anytime I leave keys in car and close the door the car honks at me. Most modern keyless start cars will unlock the doors if you lock and close the door with keys inside.
At end of day it is your money and if having it makes you feel better then go for it.
