What is the Master Thread Size for the stock shift ****? Looking at Epco ***** and its asking for the diameter.
Hmm, the OEM **** slips over the OEM shaft and is attached with a screw. The part that slips over the shaft is made of plastic so a vibrating shift lever can't causue objectional vibration.
I bought the Cue Ball **** with aluminum base for my early 2014 Z51, loved it. So when I got my 2017 Grand Sport bought another BUT the product mfg was sold and it appears to be slightly different.. Perhaps the OD dimension, don't know. BUT after some months is started to vibrate and make noise. Got so bad I installed an MGW flat stick shifter that does use a threaded ****.
I had two problems with the OEM **** when I removed. One, the screw head sheared from the screw thread! They used a very strong loctite material. PIA to fix and I was not about to mess trying to fix it! One note: when I had the bad vibration sound I could grab the OEM shaft through the boot with my hand and the nose stopped. The OEM shifter vibrates. The MGW shifter fixes that. It had a much better design and no shift handle vibration! It's also a 25% reduced stroke. Great product.
You might consider a really easy variant of a short throw shifter: a round cue ball type of ****. They're available; and they mount just like your stock **** -- one screw. With the round **** installed, the top of the **** will be lowered by about one inch from stock position, and the throw, fore and aft, will be reduced by about 1/2 inch. This is what I use on my current C7 Z06, and it works very well for me. I actually prefer it to several brands of short-throw shifters that I've tried. (Looks like Avanti, above, beat me to the punch with this idea, so you have two of us suggesting this solution.)

Can you recommend any shifter cue ball type **** that works with stock shifter ****? At this time i am not looking for MGW
The RPI **** i had installed failed miserably and made terrible rattling noise.
ok that stinks. so maybe the noise I had and yours are different. My **** didnt rattle. It was a clicking noise when I shifted. I don't have any vibrations. I guess that's why I was able to pinpoint the problem.
Does your rattle go away with the stock ****?
Did you buy RPI **** or Epco ****, i bought an epco **** looks similar and want to try it again, just dont like the stock **** height although it shifts pretty smoothly

I have the RPI ****. The clicking went away after I did those modifications with the doubles sided foam tape.

Yeah his was more than the clicking, the **** was defective. I've done a few and saw his. It was no bueno. We tried to tape that sucker up too but the rattle was in the aluminum to ball seal.

oh gotcha. So he had a defective ****. that stinks man. Get a refund for sure.

Honestly it depends on the car and shifter. Not sure why but I guess if tolerances stack up exactly the wrong way you get a lot of vibration. I solved it with o-rings on mine but others have not had any luck. The stock shifters are best as far as vibration and anything that's done that tightens things up also tends to increase the possibility of vibration. I had to put o-rings under my stock shifter **** when I changed my shifter but it fixed the issue for me.

Wrong! Have to look at the OEM shifter to see the issue versus MGW. It uses better bearings and a more ridged bushing shift rod support!
When my cue ball **** starting making a loud rattle sound I could grab the OEM vertical shift lever through the leather boot, stop the vibration and stop the rattle. When I installed the MGW shifter, the superior shift rod bushings were obvious as were they larger Nylon cushining. I can grip my MGW shift through the boot and feel it is NOT vibrating like the OEM! Great shifter. In fact I was surprised the 25% shorter shifts did not appear to increase the shifting effort. All due to the better design!
I dont have the MGW or Callaway. I have the TMOD box the stock shaft and an after market ****. So willing to bet that together is less expensive than an MGW. And very satisfied with the shifting compared to stock.

I sent a new shifter and box to Tom for the Tmod upgrade and it is money well spent. I think for most people that would be all that is needed. I like the Callaway better since I spend more time on the track than the street with my car and combined with the Tmod upgrade it is by far the best option for me. It's pricey to go that route but since I use the shifter every time I drive the car, and it's a one time expense, it's a no brainer for me. I spend more on front brake pads every year than the shifter upgrade.
@badhabit_wb are you getting that new lower bushing from TMOD that goes on bottom of shaft? I am probably going to get that too but later down the road once my stock one wears out some. If you get it please let us know how it feels. Yeah I agree as much as we spend driving our cars and having fun we might as well make it better. It's just too bad the stock set up stinks for manuals. I cant beleive how much improvement just the TMOD box alone had on the driving experience.

I ordered it last week but don't have it yet. I'm heading out of town for 2 months in a couple of weeks so I'm not sure how fast I'll get it installed. I'll drive it around the block, swap it, and drive it around the block again. Back to back I can probably tell a difference. A day apart and I'm not too sure.
