Default Side mirror caps/shells

Hi I have searched and can't seem to find the answer. Do the c7 corvette side mirror caps come off? Just the shell around the mirror not the whole side mirror assembly. Thanks for any help.

see post #98

you basically pull the mirror from the housing, remove a few screws on the inside of the housing and remove 2 torx bolts from the bottom side of the mirror housing. You’ll need rotate the housing around to gain access to the bolts and use a torx bit with a tiny wrench since there isn’t clearance to use a screw driver.

Ok, thanks for info. I'll check it out. I assumed it would be an easy click or clip to get them off but guess I was wrong lol.

Ok so I saw the post and that is exactly what I was looking for. Post 98 and your instructions above perfect. I am trying to wrap my side mirrors but it's been a pain. I saw a method on YouTube where the guy took off the mirror caps, not a vette though, and it seemed so much easier to wrap. Thanks

I will when I finish or even IF I finish, but it's been a pain. I did the roof though. That wasn't too bad.

Well I have to buy more wrap. It is way easier taking off the shells. You could do it with one wrap sheet-and finger fu$$ the wrap and stretch. But not quite good enough yet so I'll keep trying. I am sure my next try with more wrap will be a success. Probably next weekend I'll be done. If I had enough wrap I would have been finished today. I got better after my 2nd try. But still had some small imperfections and I want it to look good.

Yep, it came off really easily when a deer jumped over a guardrail and directly into the side of my C7. Yep, really easily! Poof!

I’ll tell you Lisa........just reading your posts, you have been through some CRAP in your Vettes. Deer, blow-outs, etc.

If you drive any amount of miles, on any car, then the chances of something happening is higher than the little old lady from Pasadena.

I'm the oldwoman from Orange Co. with a lot of miles (on all sorts of cars) and well over a dozen trips across the USA (thank you Uncle Sam).

Some cars hold up better than others (even within the same make/model), some are boring and utilitarian, some are more fun. I'm one that seems to hold onto a good one, so as it ages, some things may go wrong. I'm also one who understands that one should not drive if one cannot deal with the unwanted (and inevitable) problems.

"...I assumed it would be an easy click or clip..." There is VERY little on contemporary vehicles that is "easy."

I finally got it down. Did the mirror wrap with the shell on the car in two parts, the very lower portion-underneath and then the rest on top. Took weeks to get the hang of it, and much materials . I'll be finishing it up tomorrow and will load up some better pics.

It's also easier if you raise the car. I had the vette on ramps, leading out of the garage, in order to get under the side view mirror.
