Default Push-button Start/Stop?

I’ve heard stories of people taking their keys and leaving running vehicles (with push-button start) without pushing the start/stop button. While the door may lock automatically after the programmed delay, will the engine shut off, or will the engine run until the gas tank is empty?

I can’t find anything in the manual and wonder if anyone here on the forum has either experience or solid knowledge of this situation.

Engine will run until you turn off the engine, or it runs out of gas, or you drive off without the fob and then your destination and go to restart and you cannot restart because you left your fob..

I live my life by 3 simple rules:

1) When I leave home in my 'vette, the FOB NEVER leaves my pocket
2) Never share everything you know
3)

If I start mine, lock the doors, and walk away it shuts down in just a few minutes. That's if the fob is not in the car but in my pocket. My car is a 19.

From the 2017 manual - maybe other years will be different .... look under Extended parking.

Extended Parking

If the vehicle is left in P (Park) while
running and the Remote Keyless
Entry (RKE) transmitter is outside
the vehicle, the vehicle will turn off
after one hour.

If the vehicle is left in P (Park) while
running and the RKE transmitter is
inside, the vehicle will run for two
hours
. At the end of the second
hour, the vehicle will turn off.
The timer will reset if the vehicle is
taken out of P (Park) while it is
running.

Mine is an m7 but I think it shut off in less than 15 minutes with the fob away from the car and parking brake set.

My '15 MN7 would shut off in an hour - had that happen a couple of times. I'd leave the car running in safe location to keep the car cool inside because it was August and hot as hell here in Texas. I was surprised the first time to come out to find the engine off. Forgot about it the second time, but knew what had happened.

My 14 appears to not have any time limits on it for running w/o a FOB in the car. It makes no mention of extended parking in the Owner's Manual.

Interesting thread. I have a ‘14 also but have never found myself in the situation described by the OP.

I often thought a nice feature would be a programmable delay one could set before the engine shut down with no fob present. Might be useful if you got car jacked.

If you leave the fob in with the engine running and walk away it will honk at you to remind you!

You can turn this feature off in the settings screen.

Remote Left in Vehicle Alert

This feature sounds an alert when
the RKE transmitter is left in the
vehicle.
Select Off or On.

2019 manual says turns off after 1/2 hour if the RKE is outside the car and 1 hour if the RKE is inside the car

isn't that only for when the car is off and you leave the fob inside?

I know, that my 2017 did not honk if it was left running and I left the fob in the car.....but I did have to have a software update done to the infotainment system late last year. I will have to test this again.

Agreed. Mine was in the drive while I was working in the garage.
It shut off within 15 minutes.
