Protection Plan

Some people say you will never use the plan. However, the law of averages say you will. Even if you own one of the more reliable cars on the market. Take a look at the JD Power 3 year dependability study and it shows that 3 year old cars from some manufacturers have 89 failures per yer per 100 cars. Chevrolet which is better than the industry average has 123 failures per 100 cars per year. If you look at those two numbers on an individual car basis that means you should expect at least one failure per year for a 2017 Lexus and 2 failures per year for a 2017 Chevrolet since you can't have a partial failure. It either fails or doesn't.
There is no reason to assume things will be better in years 4 and onward. Let's just assume that it is one failure per year. If you take a 7 year plan and pay $2300 for it and average that cost over 7 years that means you are estimating $329 per year for repairs. You can get hit for $329 almost any time you take the car in for a repair. When the parts aren't cheap the repair costs soar. My turn signal failure which used to mean I had to replace a $1 bulb required replacement of the headlight module that at a discount price runs $1100 by itself and requires pulling the front fascia. To make sure the headlight module is at fault Vs a couple of other modules you need to have access to GM's Service Computers to run the diagnostic procedures to see which module isn't working.
