Default Lurch

I tried looking thru the threads but could not find this specific issue. When I start my car first thing in the morning and putting the car in drive, there is a 1-2 second delay and then it feels like someone rear ended me and the car bangs into drive.. Once warmed up it runs and shifts great. But when I am doing say 10-15 mph coming up to a light and hit the gas, there is a delay and a "lurch" i drive. I've had the triple flush done already and haven't had the shudder in months. I am planning my Rte 66 road trip for next week and am concerned this could get worse. May have the dealer check the fluid level and make sure thats ok. I did do my own drain/fill about 7 months ago but was not able to check the level as the car needs to be running. Any ideas?

As always.......Thanks people.

It could be the stator assembly. Have a read.

That is exactly what mine is doing. I'm just wondering if low fluid might mimic those symptoms. I may run it to th dealer just to check the level and while there, discuss this issue. I'm not looking forward to having the entire tranny dropped but it is what it is I suppose.

Thanks Joemessman

No worries. Just be sure to take it to a reliable dealer. It looks complicated, but it is just a step by step process. It is pretty straight forward and the repair department will put a good mechanic on it. It all snaps back together real nice and tight. Good luck and let us know how it goes. I'm confident the news will be good.

I just tried that little trick with going from park to reverse 20 times. We'll see what tomorrow brings. I just had my infotainment system replaced last week using Car shield warranty. I''ll have to check with them to see if this is covered. I know dropping the tranny is a BIG deal labor wise.....

I don't know what year your car is, but mine ('18) came with a 5-year, 60K-miles factory drive-train warranty. All the best!

2015....power train expired last September hence my car shield purchase. For the record, they covered the infotainment screen replacement......1700.00 P&L only cost me 100 deductible.....

My C7 with 3k miles does that. Dealer looked at it and contacted GM. Was told that was normal..... Only does it when the temperature is below 40.
It just hesitates when going from 1st to 2nd gear. Only does it once and it fine after.

If someone knows what the problem really is, please let me know too.

You'all be safe!

My first to second is fine, even on cold start up. It's when going from park to drive that I have the hesitation. Your issue might be something else especially with only 3K

My 2019 grand sport,5500 miles, automatic, does this exact same thing. on first drive of the day, 1st to 2nd shift it like misses or hesitates like 1 second before lurching forward. After that all is good.

As I stated, my 1st to second shifts are fine even on start up. It when I shift from Park to drive that there is the hesitation and banging into gear. Feels like getting bumped into at 3 mph

Hoepfully it is something easily fixed. Good luck with the repair.

Your problem is referred to as "Garage Shift", common in the early A8's.....been there, done that with my 2015. Take your car in and ask for the latest re-flash and if that doesn't do it, ask for the TC Fluid change/flush. After 3 tries re-flashing mine, it finally stopped with the 2 to 4 second delay after shifting into drive. Good luck with yours.....

Thanks for that info. I have had the triple flush done twice for the shudder. My shudder is now gone but this is something that just started. I'm going to see this morning if the trick of going from p to d 20 times has helped. I know it was re-flashed once with the flush but a second couldn't hurt.

Is the re-flash automatically part of the triple flush procedure? I didn't see it in the TSB so just curious.

A re-flash is not part of the transmission triple flush.

I have a 2015 A-8 that acts the same! I have had the newest flush done under warranty...I now have a range also...No issues after initial park to drive "lurch"...I had thought it had to do with ambient temps as it started to happen for the first few times in colder temps...but that is not the case with summer temps present it is still felt. It comes and goes too...I had an appointment at my dealer a few months ago to have it diagnosed, and darned if the morning of my appt. when I started it and it had "fixed itself"...I knew that I would be wasting my time taking it in ..and canceled the appointment...now its back again!
