If anyone is curious about the adjustments available on this mirror.

I am super excited to do this also. I have to really wait 3 or 4 more months until the Florida Inferno goes away to tackle a project like this so I have a lot of time to gather the parts. I appreciate all the info everyone is sharing on this thread!

I measured what I think the cable length needs to be to mount it in the most remote spots on the car possible and I came up with 8 meters as opposed to Jeff's 6 meters. I picked the absolute longest path since I have not yet decided where to mount it yet.

I am looking at all the options you all folks are proposing and are trying. Lots of great ideas! Right now, I am thinking I might buy a real carbon fiber spoiler to replace the body color spoiler and mount it in that. That way, if I mess it up, I still have the original spoiler to go back. A lot of work to remove the bumper so I definitely need to wait for temps in the 70's to be able to tackle it. The company Jeff pointed out says they will create a custom auction for any length desired, and it is about 6 weeks to ship but I have lots of time.

I guess I will eventually order the Camaro spoiler with the camera unless someone can find the part numbers for the C8, Caddy or other GM standalone camera.

Appreciate all the great info here

Found this description - 5.8 ft box, without power assist, without 360 view, with hd camera. Without surround view. 5.8 ft box, multipro gate, upper, with 360 view.

Might be the right one, but the color looks different.I asked GM Parts Direct and let's see if they will reply.
UPDATE:GM Parts Directed responded that they need the last 8 of your VIN to call the dealership and confirm - so no help there.

I found in the past the Parts Monkey is most helpful with this sort of quest. Maybe they can find us the C8 camera part number. I will ask.

I’m with Flame Red, these recent days of 100’s on the thermo aren’t when I want to start ripping my interior out.
‘I should have my spoiler/camera mid week.
‘I’m not putting much faith in finding the Camaro mirror used so maybe we can negotiate a group buy on some new ones from one of the GM parts houses?
Flame, when you order your cable let me know, I’ll piggyback on that and we’ll get 2 made. I think that 6 meter one should suffice if I decide to mount in the rear fascia.
‘Ditto on the thanks to everyOne contributing into/ideas for this project. Just when I think I’m done with mods!

As I said, when you have a definitive parts list and get it posted, I'll join in for the special cable or connectors or whatever. Old people like a plan. Go here, order this, make this assemble this, power here, duct tape this, glue this, beer breaks, you know details!

One other question I forgot to ask. Read this thread carefully and it is not clear to me. Is there really sufficient space to mount this camera in the center of the stock Z51 spoiler?

I would hate to buy a new CF spoiler and then discover there is not sufficient room to house the camera!

Otherwise I will have to look at the other alternatives.

I don't see how it can go into my stock Z51 spoiler on my 14. I plan on making a hole in the rear facia near the top of the trunk line to give me as high a view as I can get.

I've been doing some digging on the cameras. Best option I've got so far is the one for the 2019-2021 full size pickups. It's part of the high mount stop light. That's a whole lot better than a full width Camaro spoiler.

The part number is 84487008 and it's around $180 from the usual online dealers.

Jeff, found this thread and if I am reading it correctly, it looks like there are part diagrams indicating that camera might be available separately. https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/228384-adding-rear-camera-above-bed/ Maybe it is something completely different. The Mirror part number is 13532977. I tried to find the exploded diagrams for a GMC Sierra. but no luck.

I saw those same diagrams. There's a callout for just the camera, but no corresponding part number. It's really annoying.

I found a few other options on the SUVs, but they're not clear as to whether or not the camera is for the mirror, or the 360* surround view system. Be careful with the truck brake light too. There's a nearly identical version that has a cargo bed camera instead of the mirror camera.

Also, for anyone shopping for mirrors....I've got a lead on some back covers. Stay tuned to this channel for updates

Could it go into the 3rd brake light area? Even if drilling out that area causes the brake light to stop working putting two red LED strips on either side seems do-able. I haven't pulled the parts diagram but videos I've seen of a Z51 spoiler install show the 3rd brake light as a separate piece.

The 3rd brakelight is a separate piece from the Z51 spoiler. The light is afixed to the rear bumper assembly and the Z51 spoiler just sits over and around the brakelight There is a max of 1.5 inches width of lens and I'd guess a good 1/4" of that is bevel of the lens. So maybe a hair over 1" for the camera lens to use and not much room to work on the back of the camera to secure it to the lens. I'm pretty fearless on drilling the car but that 3rd brakelight looks sealed and there's really not enough room in it to put the camera. Maybe getting access to the 3rd brakelight and look to see the room inside to work with would be good but I have my doubts on the camera going there.

I may have found the camera assembly for the C8. It's just listed as "applique, engine lid, exterior trim". There's no diagram or description of options. But it's a $280+ part. That sounds like a piece of plastic with a camera screwed to the back.

If anyone wants to try to chase it down further, the PN is 84609010. Still looks like the truck light is the least expensive, least wasteful option for now.

I wonder what it would take to build a bracket that holds both the backup camera and the mirror camera? Then you could just open up the existing hole above the license plate and mount it similar to The Guns. It would be a few minutes with a Dremmel (after you get the bumper off ) and you could make a discreet cover plate if you ever wanted to put it back to stock.

Here is an idea if you can 3D print it - on my previous car (a Nissan 350Z) an aftermarket company made a replacement license plate light lens (say that 5 times fast) that contained a camera housing:
Amazon Amazon
You just popped off the factory light cover (as if you were changing the bulb), popped the new one in and you had an instant stealth / OEM looking backup camera with zero modifications. The housing still contained the bulb as well so didn't risk a ticket for doing this mod. Why drill when you already have an opening in the bumper already? Maybe get a spare license plate light and start modifying it.

Personally I think the view you get from the shark fin style mount on the halo would be ideal - just like the C8. A wide angle lens here would eliminate any blind spots your side mirrors don't fully cover. To avoid drilling maybe 3M mounting tape to the hatch glass at the very top would be best. Here a black fin combined with the black area of the glass should hide things better vs requiring the fin to be painted to match the halo.

Just got a reply from Part Monkey, and they are looking at it for us:

The only camera I see listed separate is on the Convertible. I will include the Catalog illustration and part numbers in the attachment. I'll keep looking on the Coupe...I think we have a couple here to look at today.
If you look at the diagram, that (part number 16) housing may be just the ticket for some wanting to mount it on the halo?

I asked for pricing on those two parts, #16 & #18.

This whole time I've only been looking at the coupe. Mainly because there are a lot more photos and those are actually in private hands. I was using that as a starting point and then trying to come up with my own idea. I had just mentally tuned out the convertible.

Turns out the convertible setup is almost exactly what I've been envisioning for my car. I'm extremely interested in pricing on that bezel now. Looks like we might also #20 and #21.

The camera comes up in internet searches. $132

It's like a bigger version of a C7 halo. It's perfect.

More good information from Parts Monkey!

The camera has changed numbers to 84895800 which we sell for $133.59 on
Trunkmonkeyparts.com . The Applique does not have pricing yet, and there is no inventory on it yet. Should be available after the first run of new convertibles. Keep checking it on the siteMore info from Paris Monkey!
