If I were to change the differential gear ratio in my 16 stingray 3LT A8, would I have any issues with check engine light due to speed sensor or the speedometer reading wrong? Thanks!
I guess I also needed to ask (if anybody knows) if the diff will bolt on without the need to swap any of the guts of the differential. I know that I need to remove the elsd device/case from the side of the diff.
The only thing will will need to do is get someone with HP tuners go in & chg it in the computer is. Also would need to chg the tire height in HP tuners to get the speedo to really read correct. But if only the G/ratio only the one. The guy above I think this was what he was telling you. Car will not need any tuning just go in & chg the ratio is all. Robert
I'll assume that you want to swap the 7 speed manual diff into your automatic car. Yes is should be a direct swap,. But I'm pretty sure you aren't going to like it. It's a huge change and witht he transmission ratios of the A8, the first couple of gears will just spin the tires. A8 is a 2:56-1 and the 7M is a 3:42-1 a 33% shorter ratio.

gotcha, thanks for that. Can I do it myself after buying a hptuners module or would it have to be a tuner?

yes that is what I’m going for. Hmm yes I was worried about the jump from 2.56 to 3.41 on the automatic. It would be pretty nutty for sure. Hopefully not to the point where 1st and 2nd become useless though. The 1 and 2 gears are pretty long in this car so it does need a bigger gear.
On our Z51 A8 with the sticky (in summer) PSS tires, I have to feather the throttle up to about 30 mph or it just spins the wheels.
what differential gear ratio do you have? Did you do the 3.41 manual diff swap?? I think the Z51 A8 has shorter gears inside the transmission itself as well. What do you use the car for?
^^^
It appears the rear axle ratios are:
M7= 3.42
A8 Base= 2.41
A8 Z51/GS= 2.73 (mine, stock)
The gear ratios inside the A8 itself seem identical for all models.
We use our car as a DD, long distance road tripper, and autocrosser (well, not this year).

thanks for posting that info. I may reconsider the 3.42 and think about going for the 2.73 from the Z51 instead. Did you swap out your differential or is it the factory 2.71?
^^^
Our car is a Z51, so it came from the factory with the 2.73 axle.
I have not driven a base C7 with the 2.41
But the C5 and C6 with automatics had a similar situation when ordered with the Z51 automatic- a "deeper" axle ratio.
I have driven those and they were definitely less "peppy", not dogs by any means but just a bit less SOTP power.
Interestingly, the deeper axle ratio on the C6 Z51 automatic didn't improve 1/4 miles times by any noticeable amount, because the Z51 had to do one more shift just before the finish line. If you went further, then the Z51 started to pull ahead.

The Z51 came with the ediff. If you have a stringray base you can't swap the rear. To be honest if you are looking for a quicker car there are cheaper/better ways to go about it.
