Windshield replacement ideas?
Just take it into your favorite glass shop (or contact your mobile glass dealer) that's on their "list" of authorized installers, then call the 3rd party claims "adjuster" that they use, the installer verifies the "damage" to the windshield and, when approved on the phone, schedule a time for the repair.
Since the cost of repair is always the same ($100) and I am not paying out of pocke for it, I always ask for a factory OEM replacement which mattered a lot when I had the windshields in my MB and BMW replaced. Didn't matter as much on my FJ Cruises (2 of them) or Ford F250 because they didn't have the auto-rain sensor and other electronic bells and whistles built into the windscreen.
doesnt make sense to use aftermarket glass
my deductible is $250 for windshield crack which unfortunately happened to me earlier this year on my 19 stingray. I pay $250 deductible. That means it doesn’t matter if the windshield is $1000 or $400, I only pay $250.
with that said, the OEM is most expensive but the installer has to submit a request for approval on why OEM is needed. Reason he submitted was the clarity of glass on aftermarket was unacceptable to customer. liberty mutual approved the request and covered my OEM glass. I paid only $250, insurance company pays the rest
dont discount the importance of front windshield glass
1. clarity in reflecting daylight and headlight of oncoming cars, not to mention providing clarity at nighttime
2. barrier in case you get hit in a car accident. Good glass will prevent damage from coming in but will also prevent occupants from being ejected
aftermarker glass meets the standards but OEM for corvette exceeds it in my opinion

Most of the time it only an auto approval if the car is 2 model years or younger .... otherwise you the insured have to pay for either an OEM endorsement on the policy or pay the difference outright between an OE equivalent part and the OEM

No special endorsement and windshields were replaced an vehicles that were ALL over 2 yrs old under the comprehensive provisions of my policies.
I am confident that if you want to replace your glass
1 - You can and will find a competent installer , there are many competent companies out there, just ask the right questions
2- Your preference for OEM or OE - I am just clearing the air that ALL WINSHIELDS , the JUNK brands , OE and OEM brands , all have to pass the same safety standards the difference in the junk brands mentioned above are two numerous to post here but has to do with tollerences
3- Laminated glass is glass , there is not one glass that is softer or one that is harder and more resistant to pitting , it's all the same stuff
4- OE manufactured glass by the OEM tier 1 suppliers mention above all fit well and the clarity is second to none
5- OE glass manufacturered by AGC is the SAME EXACT glass as the OEM
6- Check with your insurance company about their OEM policy as most will not pay for an OEM if the car is 2 model years or older , but some automatically add the OEM rider based on the type of car [ they are few and far between]
7- If you have HUD you don't need OEM , the 1st tier OE manufactured glass is just as good
8- A C7 is no more complicated than any other hi production car, there are way more complicated installs like any that requires ADAS recalibration, heck a Honda or Toyota is more complicated. People that make this statement have no idea... just ask any Glass Technician what they think about a C7 install over some of the others. The reason why some shops require them to be done inshop has nothing to do with the complexity of the install and everything to do with the "type " of owner usually... who thinks it's an exotic .... its a mass produced Chevrolet lol
If you need help chosing an installation company feel free to email or PM me with any questions you might have
