I am considering replacing the windshield in my 15 Z06 because of cosmetic reasons. It has a light windshield wiper scratch on it and a few minor rock flecks it has gotten over the years of driving. Am wondering if anyone has had a windshield replaced and who did it and did they do a good job. Have checked price online at Safelite auto glass, price seems to be reasonable, was just wondering if anyone had used them or if perhaps a dealership or a specialty shop would be a better place to carry it. Thanks
I had Safe-lite replace my w/s on my 2015 after the Corvette in front of me threw up a rock on a club trip. They don't come to your house for a Corvette replace. I found out why - it takes 3+ hours and there are lots of parts removed. Anyway, they did a fine job even reconnecting an electrical connection that the dealer screwed up on when they worked on my GPS/camera problem. Insurance covered it; I paid my deductible.
Good deal, sounds like they should know what they're doing. On their website it says that the car would have to be brought into their shop. After looking at video's of people changing them out, I can see why, pretty complicated job. Not your average window replacement, they replaced the windshield on my 4runner in my driveway in about an hour, this is much more demanding. Thanks
I used them 2 years ago to replace the windshield in my '11 GS, when they cut the old one out they cut the material the "A" pillar was wrapped in on the passenger side and tried hiding it thinking i wouldn't see it, it stood out like a sore thumb when setting in the driver seat, I fought tooth and nail to get them to replace it.
Mine is a C6, but it took 4 windshields to get a good one. PLEASE get GM windshield. Corvette world put 3 chinese windshields in my car. The 4th one was a GM and it was perfect. The GM windshield took 3 weeks to come in.
With State Farm in Illinois, we are able to get a windshield replaced just by telling them that the chips/scratches/whatever, are obstructing my vision. That's nice.
The difference in annual Comprehensive premiums between $0 deductible and $500 ded was only a few dollars, I calculated that 1 w/s replacement every 20 years would make the $0 ded a better deal, which is what we have.
We had the w/s on our 2001 and 2009 replaced, both times on road trips but the work was done by shops that were approved and recommended by State Farm and the local Corvette dealer.
Both times, they screwed it up.
The first time, there was a water leak that didn't show up for almost a year, it only leaked while driving in heavy rain but was bad enough that next morning there was a big puddle on the floor behind the passenger seat. Our dealer back home found and fixed it, but the w/s place in Montana was balking at paying the bill. That is, until State Farm called them and said if they ever again wanted to be paid by SF for any glass work, they needed to mail me a check in a hurry. They did.
The second time, a glass shop near Phoenix did the install and left a big glob of adhesive on the inside of the w/s, so you couldn't read the VIN plate. They tried to scape it off and made a real mess, then wanted me to say that the real problem was distortion in the w/s, so they wouldn't have to buy the second one. I refused to do that, again State Farm went to bat for me, and the second w/s was good.
In Phoenix, I too wanted a GM w/s instead of aftermarket w/s and said I'd pay the difference myself. The shop checked and said there was no price difference, so they ordered the GM without protest.
Use only the oem GM windshield. There should be no upcharge for this over the generic ones that some might use. You didn't say where you're located , but I used Boyds glass in St. Augustine and they did very good work and get excellent reviews.

On my C-6 the GM cost me 450 more than the aftermarket. I did not go through insurance.
Had rock damage on my 2017 and Safelite replaced at my insistence with GM OEM HUD windshield and NCM insurance paid the bill. No issues with the quality of work.
Had one replaced on my 2007 3LT by a local shop through the dealership. Unfortunately poorly done installation and water pooled in the driver's side footwell. They apologized and covered a new install......leaks through the rubber around the windshield are more common than I had originally thought and can be tricky as the water can travel quite a ways before it shows itself...

i recommend the OEM glass
Shouod be covered by your car insurance but you have to ask the installer to get approval for the OEM glass
i had a bullseye crack on my windshield a few months back. By the next morning, it grew to 11 inches long.
aside from safelite, there are 2 major aftermarket brands. Really affordable, out the door for $450 here in California. Including installation
installer recommended OEM glass because it’s harder than the aftermarket stuff.
keep in mind the front windshield is more than just clarity. It also providers the occupants from flying in during a collision so you want a reputable installer
Have used Safelite on windshields of a C4, C6, CTS-V, and C7.... great work. replaced the windshield with the Safellite windshield on my '15 3LT with heads up display - perfect....
'16 Vert- sustained rock damage to my windshield. Car is insured with State Farm. I contacted my agent to report the damage & open a claim. I was immediately advised that based upon the damage, I could have the windshield repaired or replaced (my choice) based upon the damage. Further, I was insistent that I wanted OEM glass (car has HUD) & wanted it installed thru my preferred Chevy dealer (one of the top Vette repair facilities in the state of CA). All was approved. The biggest difference was that I needed to pay for the windshield and replacement and then provide a copy of the bill to State Farm for reimbursement. Well worth it based upon my experience and the finished job. Two other points- while the dealer does not do the windshield installations, the installer they use does alot of installations for them, so they are very familiar with the quality of that installer's work. Also, when contacting the dealer to order the windshield (as dealers seldom stock them for obvious reasons), ask the parts manager to personally inspect the windshield when it arrives (and before they schedule your installation). It may save you a trip to have a windshield installed only to learn that the new windshield is defective or even worse, having your damaged windshield removed & then learning that the new one is defective. 'Hope this is helpful. Good luck!
