Let me re-phrase...I have files on the flash drive from my home PC, I put the flash drive into the USB slot behind the screen but cant access the files on the drive because it isnt compatible. Any suggestions?
The music must me in MP3 format, that is what I am using. There are free converters.
I have over 1700 songs, over 5G, on a 8G thumb-drive.
Like Vette Jockey say, hit the Media Button to play the music..
I plugged a iPod in for awhile , now I use a flash drive or blue tooth my iphones music
Yep, with Bluetooth music available on the C7, I do not see the need for a flash or thumb drive at all.
I can stream any Media from my phone to the radio. It automatically connects to the Media I used last, App or otherwise.
Pretty smart!
Disclaimer, I have not looked into Bluetooth as a music source in our cars. But before I would take that route I would investigate the sound quality vs a CD ripped to MP3. There may even be a setting in our cars (again have not looked into it) that can choose between best quality or best connection for a Bluetooth connection. Then again, depending on where your music originated from it may already be poor quality. I believe the best is to start with a source like a CD or a lossless file. Then use something like windows media player to rip to an MP3 file at 320 kbps onto a jump drive.
I have a USB drive with 256 kbps (ripped from CDs) MP3's and a bunch of M3U (Playlists). I think over 9500 songs at last count. I have a guide to export playlists out of iTunes to make M3U files, but if you organize things by name and folder you can just play folders.
An incompatible drive is probably formatted exFAT which is not supported for C7 music / media. Put the USB drive back into your PC, open Windows Explorer, right click on the USB drive, and select PROPERTIES to see the current format. If the USB drive is 32GB or smaller you can reformat to FAT32 or NTFS. If larger, format as NTFS.
Any of the 3 USB type A connections should work for media / music as well as the full size SD card slot in your 2014's console. I used an SD card formatted NTFS when I had a 2014. Most if not all of my music is in mp3 file type. Be sure to press the MEDIA button one or more times to select the SD / USB drive(s). You should see a rotating circle the first time you plug in a drive and select it as the files are indexed.
There are at least 2 reasons that music won't play from an SD card (2014/15 only) or USB drive - drive format or music file type. Connect the USB / CD to a computer and view PROPERTIES. This will tell you how the drive is formatted. Reformat to FAT32 (max 32 gb without a 3rd party utility) or NTFS for larger jump drives.
Look at the individual files with Windows Explorer to check the file type. File types mp3, wma, aac, m4a,and aif are supported. WMA and Apple lossless files are not supported.
To convert one file type to another just do an internet search for "music file converter." Find a converter that lists the file types you are dealing with. I prefer to download from a known site such as CNET,COM if possible. Several YouTube tutorials also pop up. I have not used any music file converters so I can't recommend one.
I use the USB port in the arm rest. It will not recognize USB thumb drives over 32G. It seems to have a little lag with switching songs so I tried copying my files to a faster USB that was 64G in size but the radio didn't recognize it. Will try again with a better quality USB that's 32G or less to see if the lag goes away.
I just swapped songs to a 64 GB USB and plugged it into drive behind screen worked great. So 64 GB USB's work same as 32.
Must have been the SanDisk issue in my case.
I tried with a SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 64GB thumb drive and it didn't recognize it. Currently using a free Microcenter USB 3.1 32GB thumb drive. Also confirmed it works in the USB port behind the screen just fine.
