That problem has been resolved by Range in the newer programming. And while we're on the topic I see that Diablosport is now offering their own version of the Range unit. In fact, with the exception of the logo, the units are identical. I would still opt for the original Range but if Diablo is picking up on it, that tells you something. The Diablo unit does the opposite of the Range, it enables AFM. Amusing.
"Enables vehicles with AFM to drop cylinders in order to suit the driver\'s power requirements, while conserving fuel.
Saves fuel by allowing vehicle to stay in 4-cylinder mode 80% of the time as opposed to only 35% from the factory."
Yes
I hate having a 8cyl run on 4cyl. Makes no sense in a sports car. How many folks get a Vette for Gas Mileage?
My opinion is the AFM also contributes to the Transmission shudder issue??
Everyone has their opinion. To get to the true facts on installing and removing a Diablo tune for warranty work you need to talk to the people that manufactures them, Diablo.
They will walk you thru the process and explain how it works so it isn't detected when you need to take your car in for warranty work. Just flash it back to stock before you take it in to GM.
It still is the best way to turn off AFM thru the ECM computer, not by tricking the system every time you start the car. Ever notice that you have to unplug the Range for a couple of weeks before getting an inspection? Thats because the Range is constantly clearing all the DTCs every time you start the car. This 'feature' removes all the DTCs that you would need to troubleshoot an issue with the car.
The Diablo does not clear DTCs every time you start the car. It just sets the AFM 'switch' inside the ECM to off just like driving a M7, out of Eco mode, or a A8 in manual mode.
Just took my 2015 in for oil change and state inspection. Forgot to take my Range out, thought about it later and thought, "oh ****". But it passed inspection with no problem. Now I have to de-tune my Raptor to stock and drive it around a bunch before taking it in for state inspection, but Corvette passed with flying colors. Weird.
I purchased my '19 with just under 6500 miles and immediately put in a Range device, ditto for the '16 with 3000 miles. I'd like to think there wasn't enough damage done in 6500/3000 miles to cause problems later on as I plan on keeping these beasts for awhile.
I am working on that theory right now. I have a range and just received my Diablo so I can see if there is a difference in how my car acts with AFM disabled.
I am curious on this as well. Please report when you get time on the 93 Diablo tune.

Ken
I just finished installing it a few minutes ago. I am going to drive it around this weekend and then I will report the results.
edit: I went driving around with Diablo/93 Octane. Trans-Firm and AFM/DOD off and it to me feels much better than range, there so far is no RPM spike, it drives and shifts much smoother so far.

I have been driving my car after I installed the tune like I said and it seems a much better choice to me over range. It feels a lot smoother from a transmission shift standpoint and the RPM's stay stable. I think in my opinion it is much better, I think I will keep the tune and have the range as backup if something happens.

Just to clarify a point. You're comparing apples (tune) to oranges (Range). A Diablo tune does just that, it reprograms the entire spectrum of your ECU's operation, engine tune specifications and, if you choose, transmission parameters. As a result of the reprogramming process to your ECU, you are leaving yourself vulnerable to having your drive train warranty voided by GM. The Range unit is merely designed to disable the AFM process. It does not affect any other aspect of your OEM performance configuration. Because it doesn't reprogram the ECU and provided you remove the unit before visiting the dealer, it's use is absolutely undetectable by GM. If you are out of warranty, the tune is more versatile and the way to go. If you don't wish to jeopardize your warranty and merely eliminate AFM, Range is your best bet.
Yea I know they are not the same and my warranty has been expired. The range did its job but the tune to me feels better especially since I can firm up the trans too. I mentioned what I was doing and others wanted to see the results so I told them. Like I said my warranty has expires so both options are open to me and probably many other people.
Diablo is good stuff. I've tuned a couple of my Sierra's using Diablo tunes. Never had an issue. If my Stingray were out of warranty, I would probably consider using Diablo myself. But I have a few years before I have to make that call.
By the way, if you haven't done so already, contact Diablew (Lewis Eaton). It's been years but if he is still in business, he does personalized tunes for your specific vehicle. He did mine and they really improved the performance of my 5.3 Sierras.

I picked Diablo when I saw the fact I could turn off AFM, the rest of the help is just gravy to me. I have used Diablo before on my C6 and my mustang so I knew they were good to go. If I was still in warranty I do not know if I would go with the tune over range but since I am out of warranty I can choose tune.
It must be good because they won't ship it to California! A friend of mine had his shipped to a friend in Arizona who shipped it to CA. It was well worth the trouble
