Unfortunately this dash issue started with the C6 & moved into the C7 generation
Yep, not a new issue.
I'm on the waiting list for a couple C8s I'm leaning towards the 3LT-3LZ to get the 'dipped interior', however can't help but wonder if it will have dash delaminating issues that plagued both the C6 and C7 3LTs. GM supposedly resolved the issue with the 2019 C7, however there's still plenty reports of 2019s having developing the issues. Some more than once. I realize the the C8 dash is a totally different design, however still cause for concern. I will probably go with the 2LT-2LZ to "insure" I avoid the issue.
I appreciate the comments. My thoughts are :
- Check with my local Chevy dealer on GM warranty coverage. I purchased extended warranty. However this is not covered so will rely on GM good will or GM fear?
- I am concerned about replacing dash with a new GM dash because it could happen again since it seems to be common problem? so I lean toward fixing the existing dash, period.
- I would like to find a local upholstery shop. I am talking with 5star in League City Texas. They appear to be very good. Mike at 5star took one look at my dash and laid out a plan to fix it? His only concern was removing the Glass. He said the problem is "Bad Glue" and that he would reglue the leather.
- As most know it is really hard to find folks you trust to do good work, even dealerships are hit or miss. It comes down to people. The forum is a good source for reviews. I have used Franks Vettes in Spring Texas for 15 years to handle everything mechanical/maintenance stuff unless under GM warranty. Even changing oil with the dry sump system. Frank Coleman died this year but I still believe his sons will retain commitment to do right by Vette owners.
I do have another question for the forum
Since the entire upper dash, windshield will be riped out, and reinstalled is there anything else I should have done at the same time?
First off, the GMEPP doesn't cover the interior appointments, including the dash. I just purchased the GMEPP and asked that very question. I was told in plain english that the dash wasn't covered. Essentially the GMEPP only covers the electrical and drive train components. Second, the leather repair shop will not rip out your dash. It will be repaired in place. To remove the dash requires dismantling the interior center stack, steering wheel, etc.. It is a complex process that only a trained technician or an owner with a lot of time on his hands should attempt. I would suggest that you have the leather shop explain to you in detail the process of regluing your dash before turning your Vette over to him. I know of at least one case where the shop simply used a needle to inject glue under the bubble and used pressure to reattach the leather to the dash.
Other threads mention that GM had the dash redesigned to change the leather so it wouldn't pull away from the duct. Having a 2LT dash installed may not be necessary to avoid the problem in the future.

Bill
GM starting using staples and changed the adhesive starting in 2019, which supposedly fixed the issues, however there's many reports on this forum of 2019 dashes failing, some multiple times.

I see your live kinda close to me. My 2016 3LT dash went bad in the fall of 2018. Car is garage kept and I use a window shade when parked outside. Took the car to Frede Chev in Clear Lake. Missed the factory warranty by 2 weeks. GM paid 2/3rds, I paid 1/3rd-about $925. Windshield was not removed. I asked about getting a 2LT dash instead but was told as GM was doing it under partial warranty they had to go back with the 3LT. Its been 3 years and so far the dash still looks OK.

Doubtful that the new dash covering will repeat. They've introduced intermittently applied staples to the process that augment the covering's adhesives application. Again, I would only trust a Chevrolet dealer with the R and R. Mostly because they will stand behind the redo if necessary. The indy guy down the street may not. This is a big project after all to do in the first place.

I agree 100%. Plus you get a 1-year warranty on the new dash. Here's something else to consider, the leather shop may fix the current "bubbles" but that won't ensure that other areas on the dash won't delaminate.

I hope so anyway if it happens to my 2017 3lt dash covering.😔

Kevin live large and go with the 3LT or 3LZ on your C8 Corvettes no byer remorse issues.
I have had a 3LT and a 3LZ interior on my C7's and never had a problem. Maybe I am lucky but it is worth it to know you have the best interior GM made for a particular Corvette generation.

Thanks for information. I checked with my service guy at Chevy dealer in Texas City on I45. Not good news. I know where Frede is located, is there a person you know I can talk with? Did you buy your vette there?

The service advisor that I worked with about the dash isn’t there anymore. The others have been OK. I had the A8 flush done there twice, the second being the newest version.
Bought the car used from Bayway in Pearland, but Frede doesn’t seem to care it was bought elsewhere.
Another thing, Frede sells C8s at MSRP, coupla folks in the Corvette club I’m in (Space City Corvette Club) have purchased/have ordered with them. Don’t know how long it takes though.
Keep in mind when I had mine done I had missed the factory warranty by 2 weeks. Don’t know how far past the 3 years you are (assuming you are), who knows what, if anything GM will offer you.

Next SCCC meeting look me up- 2017 Yellow GS
I do not expect GM help but it would be nice?
My local Shop is 5Star in League City. If you've heard anything about them let me know. They are big time into Corvettes

So what did they tell you? Call another place or go to Frede as discussed here. Doesn't matter how far past the 3 years you are, it will just be less that GM will offer. I just ordered my dash pad in Nov on a 2017 and GM paid 30% plus the total price seems to be less than it was a year or more ago (don't know why). Was super easy, the dealer was great, and although I've taken other Vettes there for service I have never purchased a car from them.
