That's interesting, thanks. Not sure I'd have much use for the additional information the car won't display on the regular screen, but you can say that about the analog speedometer too.
I tried using a Valentine Savvy, which plugs into the OBD port and only reads the vehicle speed, with supposedly no input from the Valentine back into the car.
But it caused as number of problems. I recall tire temperatures being way off, OnStar sending weird reports to the mother ship, and a couple of other oddball glitches that all disappeared when I removed the Savvy.
I guess anything plugged into the OBD port needs to be carefully tested.
Wonder why that seemingly useless speedo is really there? Motor vehicle safety standards mandate that a speedometer be visible at all times. You could have a car w/o HUD, and the center display has modes that can use the screen real estate for other applications. So, without the "useless" one, it would be possible to configure your C7's settings and have no speed display at all - a regulatory no-no. The Corvette is not the only vehicle with this same issue.
My take on the whole thing is they should have did all analog or all digital, the screen in the middle with the analog gauges on either side doesn't really flow and seems not very well thought out. And the worst part is those pocket gauges on either side of the tach are not even the same brightness as the rest of the display furthermore not blending in the flow. I think the whole dash is a mess.

Not disagreeing with your answer, but with all the strange features in the C7 instrumentation, why didn't GM just program it so that there had to be at least one speedometer in view at all times?
I think the answer is that GM got sucked in by the iPhone syndrome- "let's add all sorts of features just because we can, don't worry about if people will actually use them or if they will interfere with basic functions."
Given the C7 came out in 2014 the current setup was an intermediate step - a mix of digital and analog. Now fully digital is becoming the standard like in the C8.

At this point, I probably will be looking forward to seeing it in a used C9.

According to Larry Edsall's book Corvette Stingray the interior design of the C7 was likely frozen in the 2010-2011 timeframe, and was probably using what was considered state of the art for the time without relying on "vaporware" and hardware that didn't exist but was "promised" to be available.
I wish it was ALL analog, and also no touch screen, just regular manual controls.
The problem with the digital crap and screens is no matter how cutting edge they are when they are new within 5 years they look like old dogs.
My 2015 screen already looks dated as hell.
Thank god at least the boost gauge is analog, if only the canter tach was anolog too we'd have a perfect dash.

Digital is easier to read if you want to be more precise. Besides, we live in a more digital world. As to looking like an old dog in 5 years, we live in a disposable world. It isn't meant to be passed down from generation to generation. If we are talking looks, as least I have 5 years instead of analog which looks like an old dog before it comes out

This transition period will result in the most dated looks, since it contains a mix of analog and digital. The current all digital displays should look normalized many years from now or at least until the next big leap in display technology occurs. Were getting close to peak (usable) resolution, but brightness and color saturation should improve some more. The next generation will be very thin curved displays which will make flat panels look dated.

How 'bout a useless tachometer? Have one in my 2020 Colorado WT (work truck) with a 4 banger, why would I need one, not doing any racing, that's for sure.
Family style SUV's and vans, tachs.....go figure.

A quick search says that some of them can tow 3500 to 7000 pounds. It may be useful in some models but not your model. I think they use a common gauge cluster for cost containment.

Keep in mind that it's design and concept started soon after the C6 was released...
