I don't trust suction cups, they are all made of cheap quality Chinese materials, i can't get my damn Garmin to stay put on my windshield let alone trust having s bicycle on the roof of my C7...sorry not trying to be negative.

I would normally agree, but these are not suction cups, they're vacuum cups. They were originally made for the marine and glass industries and then trickled down to the bike rack market.

Keith,
The bike collection is sweet. The trek is a classic and loved watching the postal team. I have a set of Rolf wheels on my Klein that I still ride from time to time. Love the feel of the aluminum frame for short quick rides. also have a pinerello road bike, specialized crux that I race, Santa cruz tall boy, Santa cruz Hightower, Santa cruz megatower that I go downhill with. Aside from my zr1 my bikes are my passion. Wouldn’t be able to do my job and be a good dad without getting out on my bikes. Mentally and physically so healthy. Cheers

Thank you @Basil2000 my wife and I cycle about 5k a year and record it all on Strava, between us I have built a collection of about 16 and have recently sold 4 or 5 off, Many are nice frames from eBay and built up which for me is great fun, built a new Pinarello DogmaK up years back and regret selling it, at least I still get to see it on Strava. Lol

I would trust the sea sucker and have many friends that use them with NO issues and have not heard of any local failures, that being said whenever I see any vehicle with a potential hazard I get around them as quick as possible.

If you have the sea sucker monkey bars, you can attach them to the windshield and the rear glass. No paint, or potential clear roof scratches. To test I put them on the car and left them on there for a full week, never lost vacuum. When actually using them, I attach, head to the beach, go home, detach. So maybe 5 hrs. 100% confident they will hold just fine. A single vacuum cup can hold over 2000lbs when on glass. Has 8. Could very easily lift the car from the rack when mounted like this.

As a side note, I see people calling these things suction cups, that is incorrect. You push a suction cup against a surface to evacuate the air. This means the force to stay on is proportional to the force you used to apply it. So they have thin lips.

Vacuum cups are thick, like really thick solid rubber. You don't push them on. You pump the air out via a small finger pump. The small size pump means you can apply a lot of pressure, evacuating a small volume of air on each pump. This allows a massive amount of force for clamping as a result.

I understand the confusion because from the outside they look like similar things. For fun, look up how heavy cameras with cranes are attached to cars filming movies in high speed chases and stuff, vacuum cups. A bike or a surf board is like a feather on there.

As for improper use, I don't drive near anyone with anything on their car/truck. Being a motorcycle rider, I assume everyone sucks and has no idea what they are doing, best way to stay alive on 2 wheels (and 4!)

Anyone found better options? No way I'd transport a bike on the roof. I have an SUV, but would be nice to be able to drive the vette with the top off now FL weather is becoming really nice on days I want to ride. About 3 of them a week. Also don't want to take the tire off.

based on your criteria, just take your suv.

Do you really want to leave the Corvette parked somewhere while you're off riding?

I'm assuming there is a reason why you can't move the rack back so, the front mount is in the halo section and, rear would be on hatch (not the glass)? It looks like it may be a bit off on the rear part (just a bit short of a perfect fit). Even, it looks close enough that a small modification could be figured out. I wouldn't be as worried about the top, just the rear hatch glass.

^ I believe the halo section is too narrow to accommodate the full diameter of the vacuum cup.

I saw that too. I would look for smaller ones. The overall size appears that with just a small bit of tweaking, this could be made to fit.

^ I can't speak for other brands, but SeaSuckers only use a 6 inch vacuum cup. Modifying the cup would compromise the cups integrity. And I wouldn't use any other cup that isn't supplied by the manufacturer.
