The EOS website says this keeps the rear cats, is that correct? The pipe looks like it replaces the rear cats with just a straight pipe and that is what i want for more sound.

Great, I just placed my order for it with Mont Motorsports. It was out of stock for the past few weeks but they just got a few in so I ordered it. Did you end up ordering new donut gaskets or were you able to use the old ones?

I installed the EOS X-pipe today. The parts came in a good size box and were wrapped in bubble pack to protect everything. It comes with everything you will need including all clamps, bolts and 2 new donut gaskets. Taking the old exhaust off was easy as I have a lift in my garage. I sprayed some W-40 on all the nuts and they all came of without any problem. The only negative is that it came with no instructions, not that I really needed them but I did run into a few things and I will explain as it may help someone else putting this on.

The front pipe has a brace welded to it that connects both of the pipes. I really don't think it matters if the is on the top or bottom as it can go both ways but I have it on the bottom.

The next thing is they give you springs that I think are supposed to go on the bolts that attach the front pipe to the front cats. I bolts weren't long enough so if you tried to use the springs you couldn't compress them enough to get the nut started on the bolt. If the bolts were a half inch longer it would have solved the problem. After looking at it I decided the factory setup didn't have a spring on the nuts and bolts so I figured it really wasn't needed. I guess we will see if it loosens up over time but I did crank the bolts very tight and will check them after a few heat cycles to be safe.

The clamps that hold the two pipes together will hit the tunnel brace plate if the adjusting nuts are on the bottom of the pipe. There isn't enough room to have the clamps on the side of the pipe as they will hit the sides of the tunnel so they must be on the top. The problem is you cannot tighten them if they are on the top as I couldn't fit a wrench or my hand up above the pipes once they are installed. I had to install the pipes and tighten the clamps that were on the bottom but than I removed the whole exhaust and moved the clamps 180 degrees with the exhaust laying on the ground so the clamp adjusting nuts are now on the top of the pipe while making sure I wasn't moving the pipes. I used a marker to mark the position of the two pipes so I knew if I had moved them. I then put the exhaust back on and tightened the front bolts first with the donut gaskets in place and than tightened the rear clamps.

I don't have time to drive the car today but I will post again on how it sounds once I take it for a ride. Let me know if you have any questions.

John

These are all the parts that come with the pipes. You can see the bolts with the springs on them but I couldn't use the springs.

This is with the center clamps facing down but they would hit the tunnel plate when I reinstall it and I didn't want a banging sound.

Front bolts installed without the springs, I think it will be fine.

Center clamps have the adjusting nuts on the top in this picture. It did not have enough room on the side of the tunnel for the nuts so they had to be on the top.

Rear clamps are tight and install is done.

You can see the front pipe brace is installed facing down, it could go either facing up or down and I think it will be fine. I ended up putting the bolts with the donut gaskets in two different directions as it was easier to tighten them with the sockets and wrenched that I had.

Sorry, I never came back to update the post and I just saw your question. I drove the car a few times and checked all the bolts, everything was still tight. It has been 6 months and I have put a few thousand miles on the car without any problems. The exhaust is a little louder than stock and that is what I wanted, for the price you can't go wrong. I did have a lift that made the install very easy but I am sure others have done it on jack stands. Overall very happy with the product and would recommend it.

I just received my EOS X-Pipe and was impressed by the quality (overall and welds). Hope to install soon.

I appreciate your earlier write-up and pictures. Just one question..... Did you use any Exhaust sealant?

I did not use any sealant and never had any exhaust leaks. I am curious if you use the included springs that are on the bolts that came with the kit, I was unable to use them and everything still sealed fine. Just take your time and really tighten the clamps and you should be okay, good luck!

I have the EOS X-pipe and downpipes and have a few thousand miles and several track days on them with zero issues. Everything went together fine with same prying and pulling. I did reuse the OEM donut gaskets, though. Amazing bang for the buck, IMO

I will try it with the springs, but won't waste a lot of time with them.

One last thing.... when you said that you had to install the X-Pipe, mark the middle connection position then take it down to install the middle clamps, did you actually have to completely tighten up both ends as well to get an actual fit position for your marker location? (hope that made sense!)

Yes I did tighten the clamps and bolts on both ends with the clamps on the bottom and marked the pipe with a black sharpie marker in case it moved when I took the pipes off. Maybe you can figure a better way to do it than the way I did it but with the clamps on the bottom it would hit the tunnel cover and I assume make a banging noise. I never tried it that way to make sure but it sure looked like it would hit, let me know how you make out.

Thanks! I will post my results here when I am done. It may be a couple of weeks though. My weekends are pretty booked for the next two weekends!

I actually have a good friend with a C7 and he just got his EOS X-Pipe. We will be helping each other with the installation. Can't wait!!

Thanks again for your contributions to this thread and your responses to me!

Well, I FINALLY installed my EOS X-Pipe this past Saturday. With the help of a real good friend we were able to knock it out in about 2.5 hours.

I also recently purchased the QuickJack 5000TL and it was a game changer over using jack stands. I am a pretty big guy and I was able to roll around on a creeper and still have plenty of height to work.

The one thing that we did different (than mentioned above) is when we took off the stock pipe, I measured the length from one end to the other on both pipes. On mine, the stock pipe length was 54.5". We put the two EOS pipe sections together pretty snug and found that the length was about 55.25". We stood the EOS assembly on the outlet end on a padded rug, then took a section of 2x10 board laid flat over the inlet pipes and used a heavy hammer to pound the two sections together. We were able to get the overall length to 54.75". I decided to try it at that length because I didn't want to be too aggressive with the hammer! .

(REMINDER: As mentioned above, make sure you install the middle pipe clamps so the the bolts are positioned on top of the x-pipe assembly when installed. This prevents them from coming into contact with the tunnel plate.)

We slid the outlet end over the existing rear axle pipes as snug as we could and the inlet end (w/ donuts) fit up to the existing flange perfectly snug! Bolted everything up and torqued to spec (maybe a little extra grunt or two on the hose clamps! ). We checked for exhaust leaks before installing the tunnel plate and didn't detect any issues with any of the connections.

Again, I was impressed with the quality of the EOS X-pipe. The T-304 stainless appears to be more than adequate for the application and the welds were very nice.

I used a decibel meter to get a before and after cold start measurement. Based on an average reading over about two minutes, the EOS X-Pipe only measured about 3-4 decibels higher than stock. But there is definitely a "throatier" tone to idle. I drove it about 20 miles. I was able to notice a better (to me) sound at high RPMs. No drone or any negative sounds throughout the RPM range. Overall, very happy with the upgrade. Definitely worth the $260 and my time!

Unfortunately, I didn't take a before video. When I get a chance though, I will try to take an after video and post it.

FWIW, A few years ago I took a video of my old 2004 Z06 after I installed a Corsa exhaust and X-pipe. It sounded really cool on the video, but the video didn't sound the same as LIVE. Especially the initial "crack" of the exhaust note right at start-up. I think most people take their video with their phones and I believe the phone dampens (?) the sound levels somewhat.

I will still take a video of my 2016. Stay tuned......

Does the Billy Boat X-pipe had ever been dyno'ed?

How does it compare to EOS?

It looks like in 2023, the viable options for X-pipe are EOS and Billy Boat ....
