I use 'Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner & Conditioner', 2 or 3 times a year. I buy a gallon so I have plenty for 3 vehicles, about $31.
I am not sure if it is as good as Techron. Any thoughts?
1 gallon for about $31 at Advanced Auto or AutoZone

It is. I have not seen any testing done on either.
Are there any tests to prove/disprove that it’s needed at all?
I believe that when you make a claim that your product does something, it is your job to prove it works more than some SOTP, feelgood testimonials. There are a lot of male enhancement products that have testimonials but I have serious doubts they do what they say.
Owner's manual for my 2016 Stingray recommends use of Top Tier gasoline to maintain fuel system cleanliness. Most major manufacturers that I'm familiar with these days recommend use of a Top Tier gasoline. Top Tier sponsors include Audi, BMW, Ford, GM, Honda, Daimler Truck, Mercedes-Benz, Navistar, Stellantis, Toyota, and VW - I may have missed others not listed.
The only other fuel system cleaner recommended by my owner's manual is GM's Fuel System Treatment Plus to be added at an oil change in the event Top Tier gasoline is not available in your area. It runs about $17.00 plus tax, so I think the 3-4 cent premium for a Top Tier gasoline would be cheaper than this. I'd imagine non availability of Top Tier fuels would be limited primarily to locations outside of the US as almost every major brand of gasoline available in the US is a Top Tier fuel, readily identifiable by Top Tier logo prominently displayed on the pump.
One exception to recommending a Top Tier fuel was my Genesis G80 which required use of a Top Tier gasoline to avoid voiding the manufacturer's warranty. You can do a quick Google on Top Tier gasoline and learn a lot. Seems as if I recall from my past that a Top Tier gasoline requires roughly 2 1/2 times the amount of detergents as the minimum set by DOT, but this may be in error. Whatever the level is, it is significantly more than the minimum amount required. Something I did recently learn that not only is Costco's Kirkland gasoline a Top Tier fuel, according to their website it contains five times the minimum amount required by law. Unfortunately, I'm not near a Costco, but I do insure I use a Top Tier fuel, almost always available at one of the major brands nearby.
This is just my experience, as they say, your mileage may vary . . .
I use Techtron 1 or 2 times a year. Autozone has buy one get one free a couple times a year and i load up, so it is pretty cheap.
Does it help? Hell I dont know, probably doesnt hurt.

That is how snake oil peddlers do it. Make it cheap enough and enough people will buy it. Make it cheap enough and there are enough people to be willing to pay for "who knows". If they wise up and move on, there are still enough new suckers to feed on.
I have used Techron for years 2-3 times a year. B&G 44K is great but pricey!
It's not great enough that they are willing to commission an independent laboratory to run a test with the methodology open to critique. Testimonials from SOTP is way cheaper
I have seen first hand how some Berryman B12 can clean up old school throttle body injectors. I throw a bottle in all my cars at least once a year. I have no idea if it helps DI injectors but still use it, for half the cost of seafoam.
I think it depends on driving conditions, if your frequently WOT on a track not much time for too many deposits to stick around, but if your in second gear stuck in traffic everyday, cleaner might be a good idea
So no one has ever removed and inspected injectors that were treated vs non-treated?
That is going to be in a lab with a double blind test. It might also show what is the appropriate dose and efficacy. Much easier to let it run by uninformed testimonials.
