Bingo ..... if it's never done it before and it has not been topped off lately then the cap is not holding preasure .... which if left will eventually cause it to run hot as the coolant needs to be under pressure, running just a bit hotter than normal , almost undectable leads to the "puking" that you are seeing
Dave
I'm thinking that initially the engine will not run hot, the thermostat will still open/close to keep the specified temp regardless of tank pressure.
But at some point the lack of pressure in the tank will allow the coolant to boil, either during normal driving, shortly after shutting down, or when the coolant gets hot from hard driving. Then, serious overheating could come on quickly.
I think that makes sense, but no guarantee...

AFAIK, the higher pressure delays boiling or raises the boiling point. As long as it is circulating coolant and the radiator takes the heat away, life is good. OTOH, when you shut down and the radiator isn't able to move the heat away, it boils.
Well, nothing else has dripped out of the overflow tube, temperature is as normal as ever and a pressure test revealed no leaks.
Don't know if the new cap helped but it didn’t hurt, especially at $10.
Might have been topped off, a little too high in the expansion chamber.
When this all started I noticed the overflow tank appeared to be a little over the “full” mark.
It’s really difficult to see and get an accurate reading. Fortunately it’s not super critical.

My (bought new) 10K miles, 2017 Stingray base's expansion bottle is low, I've noticed. Don't recall if it was full years ago. The liquid is Yellow color in there. Wonder if I can buy this coolant if specially prescribed, @ Walmart or AutoZone??

Mine is filled with Dex-Cool and it’s orange. You can buy it anywhere. When did you last change yours?

I never buy the generic coolant that is "one size fits all" but any auto parts store should have Dexcool.
