I attended a conference at ODOT. They use systems like .Waze to feed back information on road conditions, accidents, etc. every time you identify a roadside issue, they know in a matter of minutes. This is part of the journey to the connected vehicles and ultimately autonomous vehicles. Can you imagine an autonomous Corvette?
Driving to work? Why not. If I can disable it for say some playtime after hours, I'd be good to let it do the crap work driving through the traffic.
My phone, a galaxy 8+ requires a propriety dongle for it's USB port With this plus a cable and totally discharging my phone on road trips, I'll stick with onstar. I know it's pricey but their navigation plus the accident security this service provides it's worth it for that peace of mind.
A good radar detector + Waze for the win. I've got a R7 on a blendmount wired into my mirror. Of course nothing is guaranteed, but knock on wood, no issues yet with all my travels through "Mexico".
Unfortunately, in the Commonwealth of VA you aren't allowed to receive radar signals... I know, really stupid law. But at least it's still a must issue concealed handgun permit state... for now.

I gave up on the radar detector. I have had a couple of cops that pulled me over and mentioned that they are harder on people with a radar detector because it shows intent to speed.
I think Waze is better. They had the functionality longer and its seems more consistent
So I ran both Google maps and Waze on the way home. It seemed that Waze had more reporting but I like to run both. Really like Waze. I wonder what the truckers use?
We took two long road trips last summer with friends, one car had Waze and another a Valentine detector.
There were a total of six incidents where speeding without any ECM would have gotten us a ticket.
Three of them the detector was vital, nothing was showing on Waze.
Three of them Waze was vital, the police were using instant-on radar and holding their "fire" until last moment.
Equally important is to hang back a bit behind a "scout" up ahead, he gets the bragging rights and the ticket.
