I ignore it – except once. Had a poser sniffing my bumper on a twisting 2-lane country road who wouldn’t quit. I did well to ignore him until we came up to a sharp turn I had travelled many times. I maintained speed, though well over what the road sign “suggests”. Poor dude quickly figured out he wasn’t going to make it and stood on the brakes – then kept a safe distance. I felt bad that could have gone wrong and won’t do it again. We all gotta get home.
In 20 years of Corvette ownership and 50 years of Camaro ownership it has only happened a handful of times. More often when I am driving the 69 Camaro SS. I just ignore them.
Exactly, that's why I was asking.. I was curious to figure it out.
It's kind of cultural and social issue I guess.
Like I mentioned before I live in a small town ( <50,000 people ) and within 100 mile radius also there are a lot of small towns where muscle car ownership and car clubs are the biggest form of hobby and social involvement right after hunting and church going.
These small communities do not have big sports teams that represent them or symphonies or museums, polo clubs... Families in this region do not attend fashion shows or art gallery openings.
Most of the men and women in these small towns are NASCAR enthusiast type of people who love to spend their free time behind the wheel of their souped up muscle cars and at their car clubs' social gatherings.
What I meant in my post that neither my 750Li or SL550 ever got these types of attention during the years I owned them. But in only 3 days I noticed more than few drivers showing this kind of aggressive attitude around my 2014 LRG Stingray... Especially when I am driving on a sunny day with top down.
It seems I am not alone...
So what you are saying in so many words is that you live in a Red-Neck community where one would typically expect the behavior you are asking about.
I believe some (not necessarily you) parade their Corvettes around demonstrating a "look at me" attitude which sometimes draws this type of behavior from others.

In short, "Yes". Not as often as it once was. Nothing more annoying than going for a nice drive with your girl and then having some young adrenaline filled person, do the things you've described. I ignore. Most times, it's just an attempt to see if the Corvette is really what all the hype they've seen on TV. Younger, different story. I'd act like a fool just like the instigator. Looking back, I was just as ignorant as the party in the other car. But we live and we learn. Ignore it and enjoy the passion. Good mechanics are far and few.
It happens quite often when I am out and about in my M7Z. What most of them want is a free show of the Corvettes power as most of them know they have no chance in a race. I ignore them 99% of the time but there was a nice Dodge Hemi that I could not resist, conditions were good and I put a nice beating on him, I know shame on me for street racing.
When I am parked somewhere there is always some tuner or Mustang revving when they see my Z.. funny thing is when I am on the road driving those same cars... not a peep? Funny stuff
I'm waiting for David Attenborough's voiceover "and now we get to see a display of male bonding and establishing the pecking order using their vehicles as a proxy for displays of income. It is mostly the mature individuals who are not goaded into participating, as they recognize the risk is not worth the reward, as they are unable to secure the desired female companionship through these means".
Nobody wants to race, but if I have the top down I get the occasional jerk yelling out his window commenting about my age, my gray hair or the size of my unit. Its why I hate having the top down in traffic. Does not help that the the license plate reads MOMS VETT. Its my wife's car but I drive it occasionally, so I get a lot of snarky comments about that.
Generally no, but it has happened a few times. Once it was a guy in a highly modded C6. I ignore them. I've had a few that hang with me in the curves - I stay with the pace that makes me happy and if they want to stay with me fine. But sometimes they hang too damn close.
I just cruise and enjoy the ride. I generally just do the speed limit and everyone passes me. My only weakness is with mopars. I ignore all ford products
I get it much more in my ‘66 convertible than my ‘19 coupe. Maybe it’s the 427 emblems or maybe it only happens to convertibles?!
There seem to be a lot more Mustangs with loud exhaust systems in NY where my ‘66 lives than in TX where my ‘19 lives, so maybe it is more a location issue.
I just smile knowingly and drive on.
My method to evade them is to point their car first and them give them a thumbs up by mentioning they have a nice car. That makes their day and generally they feel to reciprocate with a thumbs up back to me and they move on...
My first Corvette in 65 years.
So, those of you who are long time Corvette owners possibly get used to this by now but it is new to me.
It seems like every Dick & Jane who watched too many Fast & Furious movies think they should be racing when they see a Corvette on the road.
I am tired of ignoring people coming alongside of my car and revving and then taking off for 100 yards or so and then slowing down for me to catch up and repeat until they realize I am not in the racing mood on a public road with other traffic around us. Even guys driving a Van or a beaten up Honda Civic etc.
Today I was on highway 99 towards Fresno, CA which is 60 miles away from where I live and an Acura sedan was on my tail when quite busy traffic was moving at 65-70 mph. He was one minute next to me, one minute behind me. Staying 50 yards back and then approaching to my tail like a lightning bolt and slowing down suddenly as if I was blocking his way when both lanes filled with cars and trucks and everybody moving the same speed.
Do you guys have to deal with this kind of attitude often?
It happens and can be dangerous. I had a woman in some beater doing that when I had my 97. I was driving with the cruise set at 65 mph and she would be on my bumper, then along side of me, then pull in front and slow down. She got close enough that I was paying attention to her and not directly in front of me when the wind blew an empty 5 gallon contractors bucket across the road and I hit it. The impact tore the front fascia which had to be replaced.
When I got my C7Z I took my young neighbor out for a ride and as we cruised in the center lane of the interstate he asked me, Does this happen all of the time? I was a little confused over the question and asked him what he meant. He then described the 3 different cars he had seen that were sort of circling around us as we drove getting close in the rear, sides and pulling in front of us. I just said this is what its like to drive a Corvette on the road. Everybody tries to challenge you or try to show you their car is better. Of course, there were the good ones as well where a car would pass us and there would be hands out the window with thumbs in the air.
My only Vette that caused regular efforts on the parts of others to race or at least get my attention was my '12 GS Red Conv. Maybe it was the color combined with all the factory chrome trim but I had to ignore a lot of young guys. My C7 Torch Red Conv Z51 7 MT 1 LT is basically left a lone which is much appreciated (black wheels, black rotors, no chrome).....
Had this happen just the other day. Some sort of badass sounding Caddy - no idea what model (they all look the same to me). Usually Its a Mustang. I just smile and ignore it.
For reasons to be determined, I seem to attract SUVs and white Ford F150s getting frisky at stop lights...
Just what I've always wanted... a thousand dollar speed contest, reckless and careless citation or trip to the graybar hotel for street racing some Bubba or frustrated father of five...
