I noticed mine didn't pop up as much as usual last weekend but I'm blaming it on cooler temperatures. I know the gas struts on hoods and decklids don't seem to be as pressurized in cold versus hot - kind of like tire pressures but obviously more extreme.
The older the car and the colder the temp seem to be killers for mine. I'm ready to carry an interior body tool in the pass. area to "Help" pop it high enough for a finger toget in.
How much are new struts, how hard to install, and any aftermarket available. It is getting tirering on a $ 95,000. 3LT to have to do this. In the coldest weather any of my BMW or MB would open right up. GM sucks.
OK lets back up here. Is it the struts pressure that lifts the deck or is there something else that pops it up?
Looked at AllData and I'm not able to see any inner workings of the latch or adjustments for what challenges you're having - just complete latch replacement and/or rear hatch alignment. And there is no mention of an internal spring or similar, just mechanical pieces such as "prawl, ratchet, and sector switches". I know that doesn't help you much, but in my experience when something with gas struts starts acting up, it's often those struts that are on their way out.
Also, did not see any TSB's on the rear latch other than manual release problems with 2016 and 2017 models that would show a fault or be mechanically inoperable.
