Default stingray widebody conversion

Hey Guys, i have a 2014 stingray and i was wondering how difficult it really was to do a rear widebody conversion. from what i understand, the z06 / GS rear quarter panels and rear bumper bolt right on. I was wondering if anyone has done this before and can confirm before i buy the parts to do it.

Just to follow up on that, i only want to swap the rear end ( rear quarter panels and rear bumper).

I believe the difficulty is matching the side skirt flares to the wider rear. There's some write-ups online I've just forgotten where I saw them. Looks like a lot of work.

ive heard the same in a few other threads. my main concern was just finding out whether the rear end conversion was a simple bolt on type of installation. i plan on wrapping the car after the widebody, so paint matching and all that extra stuff is something i wont have to worry about

Interesting video from ACS. Wide body panels do look good on the car.

It all depends on what mods you are able to make.

Converting a Stingray to a widebody will cost more than just starting with a Grand Sport.
Adding an aftermarket supercharger to a Grand Sport will cost more than just saving up to start with a Z06.
But the cycle repeats itself anyway...

i feel like this is true in most cases, but not mine. i got my car for an insanely low price, and here in GA, GS prices start at 50k+. considering im buying a z06 rear end (qp's and rear bumper) for $1900, and installing them myself i feel like im saving thousands of dollars as opposed to buying a GS. i do understand your point though, and most people who attempt this conversion spend upwards of 5-7k which in that case makes sense to just buy a GS.

I am doing the exact same thing. I bought a z06 rear bumper and QP that were already the same color as my car. No paint work needed. I am buying the side scoop from ACS that works with a GM widebody kit. I will have to have that painted but all of the installation I am doing myself. Seems pretty straight forward. Now I can put some meat on the rear wheels so I can get better traction and it looks better also.

when you finish the conversion, can you send some photos? Also, do you have a link to the rear rocker panels?

If budget wasn't a limiting factor i believe everyone would buy a z06 / ZR1 lol. at the end of the day, im only 20 and i have other priorities aside from having a nice car. maybe in the future when the budget allows it, ill upgrade to z06, thats the plan anyway

Actually many wouldn't. If they can be believed, the vast majority of GS owners insist they prefer it to a Z06. But my point was if you really want a GS, get a GS and don't waste money making a Stingray look like a GS because you will never see a dime of that back and will likely lose money versus leaving it stock.

to be fair, i have never been a fan of body modifications when it came to these types of cars. I had a 370z before the c7 and i insisted on never doing bodywork as it would plummet the value of the car. the only reason i am considering this swap is because from what I've heard, the panels are bolt on which means i wont have to do any cutting / body work. It'll be like installing a cold air intake.

When time comes to sell the car, i can easily return it to stock by just bolting the old body panels back on, preserving the value of the vehicle. Additionally, these z06 panels are worth quite a good bit and i happened to get mine for cheap, so i know for a fact i can make a pretty good return on that. all in all, i got my stingray for verrryyy cheap, nowhere near how much a GS would cost, and doing this swap would be worth it in my eyes considering im getting the looks of a GS for a very low cost.

Late to this thread, but I did the rear widebody. You'll also want GS/Z06 rear wheel liners. Make sure the fenders have the metal support bracket for rigidity, and of course the orange retaining clips 3 per side. You will also need the GS/Z06 wider rear vents. The black lower valence is reused. You'll also want wider rear wheels/tires, or spacers. Get the ACS lower scoops of you care about those.

Have fun and enjoy!

I used ACS when I did my rear widebody. I thought it turned out great. Of course later I wound up doing a full widebody conversion with all factory parts.

Rocker filler is the only part not from GM. I also cut the opening for the rear brake cooling ducts.
