They want you to buy an expensive new car instead of an "overpriced but still cheaper" update.
In areas where there are lots of new secondary roads, an outdated Nav map becomes annoying after a while.
In areas with less new construction, it doesn't matter much.
We drive our older Toyota where the last available update was about 8 years ago but the Nav still is very useable here in the hinterlands.
My last 2015 C7 3 years ago, I threw $1100 at it to get ACP and AA. I loved it.
I will be doing the same to the current 2015 with no regrets.
With android auto and Google Maps, you will wonder how you ever used a factory nav system and no updates will ever be required on your part. It'll always be current.
Worth the investment, and it takes minimal knowledge and time to do the upgrade.
2014 here, recently upgraded the modules to get AA & ACP as well. Used WAMS, White Automotive Media Services for the modules. Under $800 all in and the install took me under 2 hrs. No complaints.

Either WAMS or MVI:
If you have factory nav or you want to add nav to your car while you're at it, it adds $300 to the price.

I used WAMS as well and very happy with the result. Don't forget the USB module has to be changed in the console.
Looks like if I REALLY want that 2023 NAV Update WAMS can do it, interesting. I have to ship them my HMI module (which means I need to remove it from the driver side kick plate) but its only $70 plus whatever it costs to ship your module to them. Obviously this would be a "winter" project.
