Default Traction Control

Ok, I have a 2014 Z51 with the 7 speed manual.

I've had the car for almost a month and have been exploring the limits of the car. I've noticed that when i nail the throttle in 2nd gear I can feel the rear tires slipping, but the car stays straight an in control. The other day I ran the rpm's up in 1st gear, (traveling in a straight line) mashed the loud pedal and did a hard 1-2 shift. The back end immediately jumped out and about put me damn near sideways. It startled me and I lifted out of the gas.

If I had stayed in the gas would the traction control taken over and assist in getting the car straight? Did I not give the traction control a chance to do its thing?
It doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

If I'm cornering I guess the idea is to roll into the throttle on corner exit to just induce a little wheel slip so the TC can then figure out how much grip there is?

I should mention that with 22,000 miles the car still has the original 10 y/o tires. New Michelin Pilot Supersport ZP's are going on next week.
Will the fresh rubber go a long way in helping with grip?

The C7 overpowers the TC. Ask me how I know.

A word to the wise; don't disarm your TC. It may not end well when you're in a ditch looking up.

The simple answer would be , NO!

Once, you get past the parameters of T/C, you are on your own. I had the C7 rear ended swing out, unexpectedly!

Fortunatel, I grew up in the days of Muscle Cars and no T/C. I corrected without thinking about it. It was a little exciting for a few moment.

Believe me, I have no intention of turning the TC off!

I grew up with muscle cars also, but I gotta admit. I was surprised at how fast the back end snapped sideways on me.
My wife had a firm grip on the "oh ****" handles.

The new tires will make a big difference over the 10 year old ones.

The C7 ain't no 1969 325hp SS 396 Chevelle.....the C7 is dangerous.

The average C7 driver cannot handle the base 455hp. The keyboard blow hards will claim they're all-in. They aren't.

Try it with the new tires. You should notice some difference.

I’ve had a lot of fast cars before the C7, but it’s the fastest car I’ve owned. Just bought last Friday. I put it through the paces pretty good straight away, and in my 2017 GS 7M noticed multiple times a loss of traction under hard acceleration (from a slow starting speed, not a dead stop) in 1st and again upon power shifting into 2nd around 1000-1500 rpm short of redline. It’s a powerful car.

I do need tires, 7 years old and half tread gone, but my experience in fast cars tells me the stickiest tires made are probably not gonna overcome this entirely. The interesting thing is I had the same experience test driving the C8 on much newer tires, though traction compromised for a split second less than in the C7, and that was of course in an AT in sport mode. More capable car but even more powerful.

I would love to hear experiences of other C7 drivers, esp. 7M, but even AT C7 or C8 drivers. These are powerful cars, enough so that you can’t just hop in and floor it and see what happens (though I kinda did exactly that on both counts.)

Took the Z out tonight to dinner. Sun was almost completely down, 60 degrees. Put the pedal down a bit over half way in 3rd gear and the *** went wild. The wife was not happy with me, looked terrified gripping the oh **** handle.

Turning traction control isn't as big of a deal if you leave stability control on. Traction control just pulls power when the rear wheel speed is more than the front wheels. Stability control is what keeps you from spinning out.

Yes, old tires get hard. You will also experience a much smoother ride.

I've mentioned this a number of times in the past and was shut down by some.

Long time member ,been gone a long time. have moved from a C5 to c7 Z51 - 7speed. reading through this thread brought a question to mind.... just what are the parameters of the traction control then. on a strip outing I learned the settings are quite different from the C5 !! I have a 2LT with the magnetic adjustable suspension if that matters.
