I was letting the dealer do when I took it for inspection every spring, but this year I had access to a lift so I did it myself. I was happy to save $200-$250. I wasn't too worried about it showing up on Carfax.
I have a General Motors Platinum Protection Extended Warranty..I take it to the Dealer. That way the Two Hundred Point Vehicle Inspection is done at least once a year, and if they screw it up, it is on their dime.
I'm curious what aftermarket warranty companies want to see for maintenance records. I know it is easy if you have your car serviced at a facility that sends data to Carfax, but if you are a do-it-yourselfer, are you asked for proof by third-party warranty providers? If there is a transmission failure after the maintenance interval, I'm sure they would want proof it was serviced on time so they can find a way not to pay. Just curious.
Nope, I've gotten too old and brittle to be doin' that chit anymore. I just drive 'em now. Thankfully, I have a VERY good mechanic who is actually very honest and trustworthy. He's the only person to touch ANY of our cars.
Buy a binder & some clear plastic sleeves & save all of your receipts as you perform maintenance items or repairs. It becomes a habit & you will have a great history on the car if you decide to sell. I believe that you can add oil changes & other maintenance items to your Carfax yourself

You can put DIY maintenance items in Carfax, but it won't appear on an official CarFax Vehicle History Report. It's still useful if you want a place to keep track.
I make every effort to NOT have the dealer touch anything on my car, but I do keep a log of everything done with date/description and receipts. If that isn't good enough for a potential buyer down the road then oh well.
I have a GMPP protection plan & my dealer does my oil changes, and I check my CARFAX yearly to make sure all is correct & in the 9 years I have owned my Z06, the oil changes do not show up on the CARFAX. I, like you thought they would, but they have not, only place they show up is on a GM VIS.
I recently added the "CarFax Car Care App" to my phone. It is pretty cool as I added all of our vehicles VIN's in and you can enter your own service including downloading receipts, ect., It also shows all the history prior on the vehicles I didn't buy new so pretty much like getting a free carfax for your car.
