Default C7 clutch

First twin pressure plate with self adjusting springs that I have seen, I assume they did it for longevity purposes.

We've already started the process for developing a twin for these. We'll keep you posted!

Default From the Corvette Museum information

"The seven-speed manual incorporates rev-matching technology for upshifts and downshifts. This driver-selectable feature can be easily engaged or disengaged via paddles on the steering wheel. The seven-speed is used with a new dual-mass flywheel and dual-disc clutch, which deliver greater shift quality and feel through lower inertia. The transmission with the Z51 Performance Package includes specific close-ratio gearing for more aggressive driving."

Either way, the C7's clutch is fantastic. Its engagement is smooth and predictable every time, unlike my LS6 clutches.

See above.

Single pressure plate and two discs separated by a floater.

We'll let you guys know what they will hold, etc. later this week. We're just waiting on the flywheel from GM.

Will the C7 clutch fit on the C5Z06? Mine is going out, and I didn't want to use the LS7 clutch. Wondering if the LT1 will work, and if so can I use the same slave? Throw-out bearing? Pilot bearing? Thanks if anybody knows.

that is what a twin disk it, two disks with a floater in between. There may be a very small difference, if there is it is very small. new clutch market is going to be difficult with the C7. You could make a solid flywheel and then have a clutch with sprung hubs in it so you can eliminate the weight of the dual mass flywheel.

Does the C7 have a dual mass flywheel, and not the C5 nor the C6? I have my C5Z over here in Australia (thanks Zip/GMPH for the great shipping to APO) and all the Holden guys are saying their Holden LS1s have dual mass flywheels. I thought LS1 and LS6 are solid flywheels?!?

Not even close.

That has been answered, I'm not sure I'm understanding what you're asking...

Correct, the only other hp GM vehicle that had a dual mass was the CTSV's/ZL1. It allows the use of a rigid hub while still keeping the NVH down. This is a terrible setup, plain and simple.

2005-2006 SSR with LS2/MN6 has a dual mass flywheel. Most replace with a C6 Z06 or possibly ZR1 clutch/flywheel/TO bearing Slave cylinder when the time comes. Flywheel doesn't holdup well during "spirited" launches.

Its not that it is "not even close" If it was not for the 8 bolt flywheel it would fit with no problem. We looked a couple of years ago what it would take to make it work in C5, because honestly the C5 really needs a clutch like this. However it would not work because the factory flywheel had 8 bolt holes vs. the 6 on your LS1/6. Howeve the cluch pressure plate was small enough to fit in the C5 bell housing which is saying allot. I could make a single mass flywheel like I did for the ZR1. The issue is the clutch disks are not sprung because the dual mass flywheel has give to it, so if you had a single mass flywheel and a solid clutch disk it would have some drivability issues. It would work, we have all being doing in the C4 ZF6 speeds for a long time. Just didn't want to spend the money required to properly build a flywheel if it was not going to 100% correct. If Pre-ZO6 could come up with sprung disks that would really be a big deal. The other option would be if or when you rebuild your LS1/6, buy a CTS-V crank shaft to use and the clutch will bolt right in.

Part numbers are different
Those change all the time, the same part can have different part numbers because they have a different BOX. I would put allot into that until you have both of them sitting side by side. I can tell you by looking at your picture, it looks identical to the CTS-V one I have sitting upstairs. Do a part number search and see if it was a superceeded number.

Ah yes, I forgot about those, the SSR was cool for sure. Same as the first gen CTSV.

Twin disc unit pressure plate, sorry for the confusion.

Justin we've had them side by side, there are some small variations that make them different. Now, we all know GM will update things from time to time so the original CTSV clutch I've got here may be superseded to what the C7 has now...

As far as my "not even close comment", that was made because the average guy couldn't make this work, it's not even close. 8 bolt vs 6 bolt and a stack height that is just absurd. LOL

We're working on a flywheel for this as I'm typing to convert these to everything 6 bolt, we should have something in a couple of weeks.

We've also already made dampened hub discs for these and had the hardware made when we pull them a part to put the dampened hubs in them.

We'll beat the crap out of them, test the high rpm release, etc. to see if they are indeed better than the predecessor.

Why don't you call me, I am interested in hearing about the flywheel and the setup for going to the 6 bolt. I had started working on this with Mallett a couple of years ago and we never finished it.
