We contacted Green about making a C7 performance filter that could be cleaned instead of thrown away. We have worked with them before and stand behind their great product. So with that said we now have the new C7 Green filter available. It is a direct replacement for the factory filter. It is a washable filter so you will be able to clean them instead of purchase new ones. They are inbound to us now so they should be on the shelf by Thursday. The filter that is in the picture is actually in our C7. I will try and have some dyno numbers before I leave for SEMA. We just finished breaking the car in this weekend so I should be on the rollers sometime this week with it.
Green filters use oiled interwoven cotton fabric. I believe it's a bit different than the gauze found in K&N filters. I know some people on the web claim the oil causes problems with sensors and the like, but I have never had any issues with oiled filters. Some studies show they may pass more contaminants, which may be the price you pay to get the flow. Go to GreenfilterUSA.com if you'd like more info on how they are built.
I'll be interested to see if there are any gains over the stock paper filter.
"•Green Filter USA filters come pre-treated with a specially formulated dirt trapping oil. This oil creates a positive magnetic charge, or ionic bond, with the filters stainless steel mesh. The positive charge attracts the negatively charged dust particles entering the filter, causing them to cling to the steel mesh and allowing the cotton to remain clear for maximum airflow."
the oil is very light and you will not run into sensor issues. I have been using them for years and have NO issues. Our C7 only has 549 miles on it, but 542 of them are with this filter.
Which sensors are located between the air filter and motor? Just the MAF?
Yes just the MAF sensor.
What kind of HP can I expect to get? They look really cool
I honestly do not know, I am going to try and run the car before I leave for SEMA. I don't think you are going to find any lost HP that you would be able to tell a huge difference with, but I am sure it will be some. The biggest difference though will not be comparing new filter vs. new filter, it will be the fact you can clean this filter when ever you want and it will flow as a new filter where as a paper filter you can't, you have to replace it which gets expensive over time.
