I wouldn't worry about it at all. I would be comfortable autocrossing any car; manufacturers do hellacious durability testing on new cars in far worse conditions than any autocross course will cause.
By the end of the day the tranny cooling fan may come on, but I've never seen the transmission temperature gauge get anywhere near the danger zone.
Totally agree. A run at the average autocross is typically what, maybe 2 minutes? The transmission not going to overheat in that amount of time. And there is almost always plenty of cool down time between runs.
I've seen people Autocross econo rentals.... So you should be fine. As others have mentioned, an average Autocross lap isn't much more than a minute. No new production car should overheat under any conditions in that short of time...
Now a road course with 30+ minute sessions... You may run into problems.
Actually, I may be mistaken. I believe I was thinking about the Convertible which does not have the cooling ducts and GM noted that cooling issues could arise when tracking the convertible.
Although I did search for issues with the Auto Tranny and came across this.
"Tadge commented in a session last week at Sebring that they would be doing a lot of engineering to get the cooling on the new A8 in the Z06 to allow it to survive in a track environment. To use his words he called it "Track certified". If they are having to do that much work on a new design with external pumps and valves I'd say this it's quite likely the A6 is not track certified. if it was I wouldn't expect it would need a cool down after 5 laps."
