While C7 owners are supposed to receive (from GM dealer) complimentary engine oil/filter changes for 2yr/24,000 mi, I see no defined policy in the owner's manual.
My servicing dealer tells me that the oil life indicator on the DIC must be at 20% or below for them to do the complimentary oil change. I'm old school and believe in changing the oil after the first 1000 mi which I'm advised is on me. Does anyone have the straight skinny on the official GM policy?
Not what my dealer told me. I specifically asked this so I could get the first oil change at 2,000 miles. They told me (Hendrickson) that I get 4 oil changes and when I use them was up to me...Could use all 4 in the first week if I wanted.
Just got mine done today. Had the car 6 months with some winter layup and 2100 miles.
I heard there was a chance you had to be at 20% but my dealer did mine and I was at 50%.
I'm OK with 20% from now on but on a new engine I want to change it sooner and get dexos out and Mobil 1 in. At 2100ish miles the oil was surprisingly dirty.
It sounds like it's just depending on your relationship with the dealers.
Even if they don't get reimbursed, they only have to pay ~$28 for the product and mechanic time and put it under the goodwill column on your car's record.

question: is this policy in writing somewhere? My "oil change' dealer has no C7 allocations. If I go there he may say tough shiit, you gotta pay. I bought the car 60 miles from home, but get oil changes at the small town local dealer 8 miles away. I would love to get a copy of it to show if necessary.
That's not in SI, but rather in the dealer reimbursement documents (you'd have to talk to an SM about that one).
The official GM policy is to have the dealer complete a complimentary change at DIC ≤20% and submit the claim in the batch.
Other than that, the dealer is either fudging the numbers, or just writing it up in the goodwill category, which I'm not sure who ends up paying (dealer or corporate).
I don't think we check but that's the advisors thing so I don't know 100%, but I've done NUMEROUS complimentary first oil changes on cars from 1500 - 10000 miles (the latter is usually Traverse customers lol). Just call em up and ask. If not, call another one and ask haha
My dealer said they will change the oil at any mileage I want as long as I do not exceed 4 oil changes in 2 years.
Guess it is up to the dealer what they are willing to do.
My dealership told me 4 free oil changes during the first 2/24, anytime I want them regardless of oil %. Their policy used to be < 20%, but they recently it changed it (this is straight from their service dept).
