Just spent the afternoon with the Dealer General Manager and Regional Rep and they both stepped up way beyond our expectations! .... We go back tomorrow to pick up our new car!
I'm very happy for you. In situations like this, it's important to remember you are dealing with a bureaucracy understaffed and over-worked (this is not a GM profit center, after all) just like dealing with insurance companies. They have guidelines on these matters that must be followed. My guess is that as they got further into this they realized, it was just easier to replace the car -- Just took them some time to get there.
OP -- Don't you think it's time you took this to the next level and sought a letter from an attorney putting GM on notice under the Conn Lemon Law? I'm wondering if the addition of a third party injury isn't slowing your claim?
Don't assume because you bought your car in RI that the Conn law doesn't apply. Make a claim and see if they raise the defense that the Conn law doesn't apply. My professional guess is that they will not do so, and that there is probably case law saying the Conn LL applies to all residents of Conn. RI has a lemon law as well (http://www.dmv.org/ri-rhode-island/a.../lemon-law.php) so GM gains nothing by forcing you to bring your action in RI other than a very slight delay. Nothing changes the underlying facts that their engine suffered a catastrophic failure well within the terms of their warranty.
I'm so sorry for your problems and I hope you have a new car very soon. All my best.

Which dealer is that at? I saw a few more over at Trenary the other day in case you want them to look in the system for you for other combos (close dealer trade scenario, or maybe they won't care where you get it from - not sure what the arrangement is).
White/black Z51 2LT and a loaded black/black Z51 3LT.

Glad it worked out.
Chevy usually steps up to the plate.
Chevy did a buyback on my 2000 Gray Vette coupe due to a malfunctioning gas gauge they could not fix.
Replaced it with a 2001 White Vette Convertible.
Frank. I'm so happy to hear everything worked out for you! its great your dealer did that for you.
Things aren't going so well for me on my end. I got the car back after 22 days and it still has an array of isses (see my latest thread). I wish GM or Kerbeck made it right and got me another car, but don't see that happening. They werent even willing to send my car back to me when it was complete. (I had to take a bus 2.5 hours).
Hope this one give you zero problems! best of luck
I'm shocked by that, as well - but it had to be something more serious if GM actually did it. We know how much of a pain that is, so the root had to be more serious.
Some of the replies in this thread are pretty retarded. The car has a 5 year 100k powertrain warranty. Of course they'll be replacing the engine and anything else damaged as a result of the failure.
Not sure why he'd get a new car... they come with a warranty for a reason.
not if they can 'prove' misuse/abuse'
they tried that with me on a C5 w/ 6k miles. Fortunately, the dealers mechanic wanted to know, so kept on digging; found the main computer failed to shutdown the engine when it was supposed to do so.
went from a warranty denial to an approved replacement soon thereafter.
Just noticed on another STIGRAYforum that the OP's (Zing) case is still not settled. Over 3 months since engine blew up.
In the hands of his lawyer.

That's correct. My case is still going on. Frank on a few posts ago had his resolved, but as far as my issue, it's still going on. Hopefully soon, perfect timing for the winter months
