Had the car on the Dyno today (first experience doing so) and during the run's briefly touched but did not exceed 6500 RPM...is this ill advised? i.e. is additional conservatism merited to hold RPM's at 6000 to protect the engine or is it designed to tolerate brief incursions into but not exceeding 6500?

It won't hurt anything, there is a rev limiter. It's not advisable to hold the car on the rev limiter but running it up and letting off on the dyno is ok.

If you down shift into 2nd gear at 100 mph then you will have a problem.

With the auto, yes. I don't know of any manual transmissions with this capability.

Only shift lockout on M7 is 1st and Reverse. From my experience.... Not thinking I shifted to 2nd when I should I chose 3rd but I caught it before I released the clutch.
