I had my first oil change today. I told the service advisor that I wanted 9.5 quarts of Mobil 1 used. He was reluctant, saying they used another "dexos", but eventually agreed to Mobil 1. I was not allowed in the work bay area, so I don't know what they actually used.
My invoice reads "quantity 9 number 12345885 oil 8.800 N". The oil level did come 1/2 way up the hash marks on the dipstick, so if they only used 9 quarts, they didn't drain the old oil completely.
Did I get Mobil 1, or did they lie to me?
you will never know what they really used, which is one of the reasons I do it myself.
the old oil never COMPLETELY is drained, there is always a little in all the crevices, lines, etc left in the motor, even if I let the oil drain for hours I never need the full amount to go back in or else it is overfilled.
i always refill with one full quart less than the book states is needed, run the motor, turn it off, let it sit for a couple minutes, it is usually just barely below the full mark. I check it again after sitting overnight and it's usually halfway up the marks....that's where I want it.

Very true.
I had a co-worker tell me he did his first oil change the previous weekend. He proudly tells me how he started the motor for a short time to "get all the oil out" before replacing the drain plug!
Nope, I'm not making this up. It still sends shivers down my spine when I think of it!

Please tell me he said that in a new york accent. That's the way I want to imagine it.
Not sure what oil they put in my Z51, but I don't believe it was Mobil 1. They also made a mess by spilling oil in the engine compartment. I asked for 9.5 qts, but it was overfilled by one quart. I won't go back. Invoice reads as follows;

Mobil 1 won't pass emissions. Dexos will.
I know that sounds crazy but it's true.
When I had my 1997 - 2013 A&A Supercharger Systems CARB certified, I took a 2013 C6 to the emissions lab to make sure it passed in bone stock trim before I wasted a lot of time and money. It failed.
I was pretty much dumbfounded. How could a new car fail?
Now remember, this is not a regular SMOG test. This is the same test that GM has to go through to EPA and CARB test the new vehicle. It is EXTREMELY comprehensive.
I found out that the dealer had installed Mobil 1 at the last oil change.
We drained it out, installed Dexos and took it back to the lab with no other changes. It passed!
This little oil swap fiasco cost me about $5000.
I guarantee that when I take the C7 to the lab, it will have band new Dexos in it!

Is there a snowball's chance in hell that GM will exchange our 4 or 5 dealer changes for oil and filter out the door so we can do our own. I'd even be willing to trade all 4 of mine for oil to support only 3 changes. It's a win/win in my eyes.
I really want to do my own anyway. Why not give us the option?

My dealer did that for me on a previous car... I had a free oil change, and the service department ordered the oil from the parts dept. and gave me the oil and filter.
