Took my car to the dealer after it wanted to give out on the highway pulled to side and shut it off and when trying to start It wouldn't took it to the dealer and couple days later they tell me it's a valve issue in the cylinder and lookin more in to it to see what else is wrong
Is this a serious problem
should I be Asking for a new engine or have them fix it would there be future problems only 1200 miles
Did it make any strange noises when it decided it didn't want to start? Like metal on metal noises? There was another recent thread about a busted rocker arm. Hopefully it's similar. If you have a valve in the cylinder (as in not in the head anymore) then you have a crispy motor. You'd probably know which of these possibilities it is, as a dropped valve would sound really bad if it didn't outright seize the engine. A busted rocker would make it run on 7 cylinders but probably wouldn't sound nearly as bad..
The thing that worries me about the potential broken rocker is whether the actual arm is broken somehow or it let go of the trunion bearings which means a mess of needle bearings in the engine.

If this is the case go for a new replacement on the motor. I wouldn't want a fix on this problem. Shops out here today don't really know what they are doing on this & doing it correct so the fix will not come apart if you run it to much at high RPM.

Idk gotta see what they tell me today what' else is wrong and see if anything else is damage I'll let you know if it's just a valve is this a easy fix
Another tread in the general forum about a broken valve spring. Said the retainer kept it in the head - I would want to see for myself thru a scope to make sure it didn't contact the piston. Whatever yours is, I hope it's as painless a fix as possible.

Thanks btw dealer called and said now it's 3 valves that went out and checkin to see if anything else got damaged so far just the valves
I called back and talked to the guy more he's sayin 3 valves are out and guy is check in to see if there's any more damage he'll let me no Monday or Tuesday what else is wrong but idk what to do is this a easy fix or a serious problem and should request for a new engine
Also if I do need a new engine will the engine numbers still match will the car lose value after ?
What you want a new engine, you don't want something that has had internal damage done to one of the cylinder walls.
If the engine stopped it was because the valve jammed the engine so there has to be head and wall damage.
I wouldn't worry about matching numbers I think all that nonsense stopped years ago.
I'm with you on that but if the head wall has no damage I don't think they will replace it but the car does start but not in a normal way just something is stoping it
would they replace my engine with no problem I don't think so

NO will not match if they still do it like years ago when stuff like this happen. They have like odd numbers that fall under the problems like this & if someone checks those numbers it will tell them your org motor was replace by the factory with a replacement new motor...
numbers matching is not a thing anymore, don't worry about it, just let them fix it. do something else while you wait like racquetball or tea and crumpets.
"Numbers matching" is for 50 year old Corvettes to prove their originality which makes them worth more. I think there are twice as many numbers matching '66 427's running around then were made that year. lol
