Default GM Oil Change Program on C7 Corvettes

As winter approaches I usually start thinking about putting the Vette away and part of that is changing the oil. Now, with the GM oil change program allowing four or five oil changes on new C7s I am wondering if I can use one of those free oil changes before I put the car away. I already had the oil changed after break-in period because I have a Z51. I looked at the oil monitoring readout and it says I still have about 35% left until an oil change is due. It would be nice if I could get the oil changed under the program before I put it away. Does anyone have experience with, or know anything about, being able to get the oil changed at the customers request, instead of being locked into the oil monitoring percentage?

In reality I doubt I will ever use all of the oil changes provided under the program because we do not put that many miles on our cars because of the shorter driving season.

My salesman told me the oil changes only apply to Z51 and Z06 models and no the base C7 is that true.

I recently purchased a lightly used base '15 Stingray with 8,000m from an Austin Chevy dealer. The paperwork I received indicated that the oil had recently been changed with other than Mobil 1.

I took in a couple of posts from the Forum that included GM reference numbers and the dealer changed the oil to Mobil 1 at no charge.

I doubt I will ever use my oil changes, I would rather change the oil myself and know its done the way I want it done.

If you work on cars and don't mind doing them yourself, the cost is less than 50 bucks using quality oil and filter.

I think walmart was 22 bucks for the 5 quart container, I buy 2, and about 6 for the Pure Gold Purolator filter.

The extra oil can be saved for the next change, I end up using it on the mower or one of the other cars I own before it has a chance to lay around.

You, or your salesman, are confused. The extra oil change at 500 miles applies only to the dry sump engines (Z51 and Z06).

ALL C7s get 4 free changes in the first 24 months (2014 and 15) or 2 free changes in the first 12 months (2016). These can be done at any time and mileage the owner desires, regardless of what the OLM says. You could have them done at 500 miles, 1,000 miles, 1,500 miles and 2000 miles if you want to.

Not all dealers understand this, however.

Dealer oil changes, 2 years or 24,000 miles. Just had my second oil change done today at 14,000 miles on my 15.

When I brought my car in for the breakin oil change I brought with one of the technical service bulletins because I know they would be skeptical about the oil change at 500 miles for the Z51 optioned cars, but after a few minutes of checking the service writer came back and said okay. I have to admit I was surprised. I used to change my own oil when I had a car lift, but after selling that I decided to go to the dealer. I have been training them that the car does not go through their Quick Lube area, but instead I request their Corvette trained mechanic do it. Getting back to the statement from Meyerweb about the customer being able to get the oil changed using the free oil change program, is there a written document that evidences that? Again, while I have not talked with the dealer yet because I am still driving the car, they have been very tough on warranty service so something in writing is always the best way to go.

Many references to the free oil changes in the Mobil 1 sticky... This is just one of many with the same info. It should also be referenced on your window sticker.

In 2016 the free changes have been reduced to 2 from 4, NOT including the 500 mile one for Z51/Z06

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1590319622

And one with a PDF: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1590351511

And you can always get the Mobil 1 oil cap too, also in posts near the links above.

2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes – Additional Required Maintenance
The following message only applies to dry sump Corvettes that have not had their first oil change performed.
Some 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes may experience a condition that leads to oil leaking out from the air cleaner assembly. This condition may be caused by running the engine continuously at a high engine speed with the first factory fill oil, resulting in silicone sealants in the engine’s gaskets degrading the oil’s anti-foaming agents. The oil foam has no effect on the engine’s durability.
Effective Immediately:
GM is changing the required maintenance schedule for all 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes equipped with dry sump systems. The new schedule will require the oil/filter be changed immediately after the break-in period, which occurs after the first 500 miles of operation. Once the break-in oil change is performed and the Oil Life Monitoring system is reset, customers should follow the Oil Life Monitoring system for all future oil change needs.
The 2nd printing of the 2015 Owner Manuals is being updated with this change. These manuals will not be in the glove box material until January 2015. For vehicles produced before this change, and for all vehicles going forward, it is important to notify the customers that a change has been made, and they will need to have the vehicle’s oil changed after the break-in period. Copies of the new maintenance grid will be available on GMPROGRAMINFO.com, under Chevrolet, Resources.
As you are aware, all 2014/2015 Corvettes come with Chevrolet Complete Care which covers 2 years/24,000 miles of select required maintenance. Previously, up to 4 service events were allowed under the program guidelines in the 2-year/24,000-mile period. With the change in the maintenance schedule being effective immediately, an additional oil change allowance will be added to 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes, increasing the amount of coverage to 2 years/24,000 miles, up to 5 service events.
Please make sure all dealership personnel are aware of this change.

To: Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC Dealers
The 2014-2015 Chevrolet Complete Care Program for Corvettes was designed to take into account the preferred Mobil 1 oil choice of many Corvette owners. As a reminder, dealers are required to use Mobil 1 when performing oil changes on ALL 2014-2015 Corvettes through the Chevrolet Complete Care Program. Current reimbursement levels for Corvette are based on Mobil 1 usage. Please remind all personnel that only Mobil 1 should be used. In addition, please refer to GlobalConnect message # G_0000205212 for details on dry sump equipped (Z51, Z52, and Z06) Corvettes.
In the event a customer paid an upcharge for Mobil 1 under the Chevrolet Complete Care Program, customers should be directed to contact Executive CAC at (855) 435-7284 or email helpacustomer@gm.com for reimbursement.

Interesting information on the 2016s. I did not have any trouble getting Mobile 1 in my first oil change, but with all the posts about dealers not using Moble 1 I plan on reminding them the next time I get an oil change. By the way, I put this aftermarket oil cap after I bought my car. A little more money than the basic black, but what the Corvette wants the Corvette gets.

I've seen this and other aftermarket Mobil 1 oil caps. My feeling is that these glitzy caps may actually defeat the purpose. It calls attention to itself as distinctly non-OEM and may make the tech question it..then research what oil the C7 "requires"...then see dexos approved oil required...then fill with the (perfectly good) semi-synthetic GM 5w-30 dexos approved oil...then back to square one at an under-educated dealership.

Mobil 1 is the "requirement" of the Complete Care program for the C7 (hence the memo), and it's what dealers are reimbursed for. However Mobil 1 is NOT a warranty requirement for the C7 - that's the dexos requirement.

I went with the OEM Mobil cap on mine for this reason. Even though I tend to change my own oil.

Not mine, but same cap from amazon for $13:
