Cooling rings are for track use only. They are to be applied prior to running on track and are to be removed when going back to the street. Z51s are delivered with cooling rings in the rear hatch area. Their usage is covered in the owners manual.

Why should they be removed when being driven on the street?
Do not leave rotor cooling rings installed after a track event, as this can cause corrosion with long-term use. Rotor cooling rings are for track use only. Track driving without the rotor cooling rings may result in brake pedal fade.
When at Spring mountain I asked if it was OK to install cooling rings and drive to the track . In my case that would be from Pennsylvania to Bowling green. They said that would be Ok, just don't leave them on for an extended period.
I agree with this. Short term will not be an issue. They just should not be left on permanently.

Purely a corrosion issue due to dis similar metals. Leaving them in is not an issue. If you don't drive your car in inclement weather or salted roads it won't matter. Especially if you remove your wheels often to clean rims, or check/change brakes. I left mine in for a year. Removed them when I bought upgraded rotors and the cooling rings looked new. I had only driven in the rain a couple of times and I live in the south.

I leave mine on as I track a lot in the summer. No corrosion visible and the wire that comes with the rings is stainless steel. Not a forever corrosion preventative but helps. A little spritz of brake cleaner every so often helps too.
