HD Radio
Do you know where the transmitter towers are located?

Last year when I picked-up my 2015 C7 at the dealer, I was fully expecting it to have HD Radio just like the 2014 model I test drove. Guess what?

I recently rented a Tahoe with HD Radio and it sounded awesome, no dropouts whatsoever, it was seamless.
Anyways, I've been doing some research into converting my current FM radio to HD. Here's what I know so far:
- The 2015 C7 XM/FM/AM Receiver module is located behind the carpet at the end of the passenger side footwell, behind the Body Control Module. It is assumed that the 2014 C7 XM/HD FM Receiver is located in the same position, although this is irrelevant.
- The 2015 C7 XM/FM/AM Receiver, GM part # is: 13598662
- The 2014 C7 XM/FM/Am Receiver with HD Radio, GM part # is: 13592804
- The asking price of a used HD Receiver module (13592804) on ebay is approx. $100 (from a crashed 2014 Silverado).
- The notes on the HD Receiver module's Ad on ebay suggests that it will have to be re-programmed with the new vehicle's VIN before it will work. Of this, I'm not entirely sure.
Now the questions that remain are:
- Will a dealer be willing to re-program a used receiver module?
- How much will it cost?
- Will the receiver module swap actually work, or does the HMI module also require re-programming with the HD GUI functions?
Anyone, please feel free to chime in.......
I expect they dropped it in the vette until they could figure out a way to get better reception. They hide the antenna behind the rear bumper fascia. About 6 or 7 inches above the exhaust and right behind the tail lights and too close to the magnet if you happen to have the factory 8 inch sub. Not a great place. Most of the other cars that have it are either an external mounted antenna or it is in the windshield. Bad design. I am interested to know how they fixed it on the 2017 model and of it can be retrofitted on the 14.

BTW, before you spend over 1k for a couple of apps on your factory radio, i would seriously look at an aftermarket solution. Can get a whole lot more for a whole lot less and still have enough money left to upgrade the speakers if you want. I spent 600 for a pioneer double din touch screen unit for my wife's car that has everything, including the ability to download and use android apps with built in wifi, for free, and enough video inputs to put cameras anywhere you like. Just my opinion. Your money though.
