The car doesn't miss a beat at WOT but at low to medium acceleration it acts different. Like it hesitates almost like the computer is trying to figure it out. Its probably just me and I am not use to the a8. All my previous corvettes were a6 or m6. Does this sound normal? Some have said the computer needs to learn. After 1500 miles you would think it would figure it out.
Mine had a hesitation/stumble like you speak of after installing a ported throttle body. It took some playing with the tune to get it ironed out. Like you, at WOT it was fine, but just cruising along it obvious.
not sure if its gear hunting. I have never experienced a car gear hunting. Its almost like its missing but its not.
High gear transmissions tend to hunt more often the older 6's when you modulate the throttle or brake on and off or whatever. This feels like the car shifting back and forth between gears or delay in engagements (up or down shifts) into the gear you would think should be demanded.
A8s don't hunt in our cars - that's the beauty of our torque modelling. We make so much torque that it rarely has to change gears without a substantial change in load, and it's good as selecting the correct one, so far as I can tell.
If you tied the A8 to a little turbo four cylinder, then it'd hunt a lot I imagine. But mine sure doesn't.
Mine is GS so could be a little different. I suppose there is some hesitation if you don't press the pedal far enough and get it to kick down a gear. When cruising at neutral throttle it always wants to shift the highest gear possible and then lock the clutch. I am really wondering if the LT4 trans is a totally different feel.

Light throttle (like in traffic) with modulation and mine hunts all the time, as does every 8 or 9 speed I've ever driven, no matter the car, including my Ram truck. Ny A8 hesitates horribly downshifting in traffic as well as holding gears too long.
Also if the OP is letting AFM turn on then it will hesitate even more. Might try running in M and stay no less than 2,000 rpm then see if it hesitates.
