I can always change my layout, too. I overlay the data on video using RaceRender.
One very important difference: as you can see, I can see how the current lap's delta is compared to best lap so far on the phone screen during the lapping. The PDR system, inexplicably, doesn't provide this vital information.
can you give out a list of what parts and wiring you used?
Are you asking me? No wiring necessary.
Vgate i2 BT OBD II reader (just plug in to OBD Port to read engine/car data).
BT GPS transponder ($70-150; I use XGPS160)
Your favorite action video camera.
Your Android or iOS device to log the data.
Finally, RaceRender PC app to put it all together. There are other apps also available, like DashWare.
All in all, it's very cheap, and you get to track your sector and lap delta times live during the session, which is a must for me (and which is why I skipped PDR). Some like the simplicity of PDR, tough, so YMMV : )
Anything CAN be added. The question is, is it cost effective? If you don't own the car yet, no, it's probably not cost effective. Just buy a car that has it. Why bother buying new if you are going to track the thing? There are a metric crap ton of very low mileage, used C7's with PDR, that have already taken the depreciation hit.
Yes, you can use aftermarket stuff, yes it will be functional. No, you probably can't use the Cosworth video tools...

There are a couple advantages to PDR, namely standard OBD channels do not share steering angle or brake pressure, which would be really nice to have for analysis. These are exposed as extended OBD PIDs, but I believe the only setup that will pull this data is the AIM Solo DL with a gopro and racerender, or for an all in one solution, the smartycam standalone: https://store.m-world.us/collections...nt=16353995265
The smartycam setup is far superior to PDR in terms of data collection and analysis tools, but isn't cleanly integrated as you'll need to run a cable to OBD and to power, but that's handily available in the cargo area.
The easiest thing to do is get a RAM suction iphone mount and run Harry's on your phone. It captures video and renders the overlays in phone, and you can post on social/youtube immediately. No additional hardware required. Excuse my terrible driving, but here's an example:
The built in GPS is adequate for hobby use, but you can get a 10Hz GPS and get much more accurate position data in the app, just connects through bluetooth.
pdr can be added.. I installed pdr into my 16 z06 buying all parts needed used and about 2 hrs of wiring. im also working on a write up with pics of it installed and should have it done in a week or so
It has been a while and I know you are busy fixing vettes so if I brought you my 16 Z06 1LZ what would it cost me for you to add it (nav and PDR) to my car and how long would it take?
Thanks
Bill

Reason: Typo
I am currently at Spring Mountain and today they went over the basics of the PDR. Some people in class asked if it can be added to a car that doesn't have it. The instructor said GM's response was yes, for $9000.

Don't know much about GoPro - which one would you recommend? I would think that video stabilization would be a must. Thanks
