^He needs more time. He rebuilt his "Corvette's" now he started rebuilding Noah's "Ark's". Honestly, no sense in tearing into your car. X25's method is best.

Has anyone tried to put a gopro or similar camera in the factory pdr camera location? The “session” gopro looks very compact and might fit.

I think you need to capture the driver for best experience. The tiny steering wheel graph or the gear indicator overlays on the video just doesn't make it as good as seeing the person shifting or struggling in a turn, etc.

I'm looking more for a camera that captures the same view as the PDR for everyday use. I may make this my winter project and take apart the trim around the camera location and see what kind of room is in there. It looks like you could permanently mount it and control it with your phone.

I have seen several threads where drivers want to use the PDR as a ‘dash camera’ but they don’t want devices stuck on the dash or windshield. If this little camera would fit in that space, it would be perfect. Everyone has a smart phone these days so using that for a display and a control device is perfect.

Chevrolet should have given us two options. One as a track camera (PDR) and one using the front camera and back camera as a dash camera. My 2c.

Compact/Inexpensive--> GoPro Session (internal battery's don't hold a charge very well after about a year)
Normal GoPro's have battery packs, but lack the compact nature. $400-500

Racelogic VBOX Video HD 1 or 2 Camera option -----> Equal parts unnecessary and brilliant $2,600-$3,000

(Above are my opinions not a blowout sale advertisement)

looking at this now.

https://www.innovv.com/innovv-c5

It is made for a motorcycle but it looks like the camera should fit and it connects to a smart phone. I should be able to run the camera wire under the trim to the glove box or center console.

However, the steering angle read out shows exactly what the driver is doing Vs a picture of the driver moving around. From an analysis standpoint the read out provides better information.

For me seeing the driver is unimportant compared to what is happening outside and when I ran my separate cameras and smart phones in my C4, C5 and C6 I put the camera into wide angle mode and focused it to infinity outside the car and took the shot over the driver's shoulder so the speedometer could sometimes be seen depending on where the steering wheel was turned. When a wide angle view is taken outside the car the speed impression is much higher.

Garmin's Auto bundle is an easy way to do it for $300. No steering angle, but I also don't care about steering angle unless there are 5 other grand sports running the same tire as me so I can compare them.

it has been a long time but i have also rebuilt 15 corvette's this year doing it everyday after my full time job. So for me to sit down and draw up a wiring diagram for everyone to understand along with pictures for step by step instructions isn't on the top of my list. Here is a reply that i gave someone on a pm message. if any of you get all the parts together and are ready to hook it up pm me and i will give you my number and i will walk you though every step of the way!!

This what you will need hmi module if you dont have nav, pdr module, 2 gps antenna's, sd card reader, and 3 mico usb male cables, and camera for windsheild. I sourced all of mine stuff from ebay from a seller out of tampa fl,make sure that when you buy the modules you get the pigtails with them. The cables i got online along with the gps antenna's. you will need to program hmi module with a vin from a car that has pdr which you can source from ebay on a car for sale, not going into how you can do this but if you think hard enough you will figure it out. Then comes the wiring, the camera, card reader and the display, this all all easy as they are usb run. black usb connector from pdr goes to green connector on the back of the display. green usb connector goes to card reader the pigtail on the card reader needs only power and ground power is pin 6 and ground is pin 1. this can be tapped in at radio module which you will need to pull out of the bracket and gain access to the connectors in the next couple steps. blue usb connector on pdr module connects to the windshield camera. if you get this far and want to go further i will then tell you how to tap into the mic and speakers along with data line to add pdr comm

Sounds complicated, but I stand corrected. You came back. Nice C7R btw, hell of a job in 3 months.

Hmmm - this is interesting. I had PDR installed from the factory. I then installed the Infotainment.com HMI and Radio so Andriod Auto/Carplay now works. But I lost PDR. Infotainment.com said they could not figure out how to make the PDR work when the HMI was upgraded. I still have the original PDR module installed but the PDR button on the menu does nothing. Infotainment.com claimed they tried using a newer PDR and it still did not work. Curious to see any procedures that get written up!

I'm going to try to retrofit a PDR into my 2014 Z51. I've got most of the parts on hand. It'll be a while though. I'm going to bench test it all and figure out the software side of things before I tear my car apart.

Would be interesting to see if you have parts information for the camera itself, and if an “upgraded” unit is available from one of the tiered suppliers on the market.

My only complaint about the PDR is the relative low image resolution and quality.

Even if you could find a higher resolution camera that would fit in the car, I doubt it'd be compatible. The software is likely to be pretty tightly optimized for that specific camera. Once I buy the actual camera module I'll try to get some more technical data about it. Right now I'm more focused on getting my test bench up and running.

Interesting. I don't know how much the software integrates with the camera, but it appears on first glance that the output from the camera module is a simple USB 2.0 interface using a MINI USB connector:

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/9RgAA...kD/s-l1600.jpg

IF someone has access to the open source Cosworth PDR source code we can determine fairly quickly if the camera module is testing for a specific chipset. The only other reference I found was someone mentioned 3.5 years ago that the codes made references to a Aptina AR0132 image sensor?

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1588932510

If that's the case, it wouldn't be out of the real of possibility to re-write the open source code for a different camera sensor/module and update the PDR software to recognize the newer, better camera.

But that's way above my pay grade. I'm just a lowly marketing monkey.
