I have a 2017 Z51 with 4800 miles. After reading about low fluid levels in some diffs from the factory I decided to check mine. It was at least 1/2" low. I will just change it after the fluid I ordered comes in instead of adding to it.
My question is what torque setting for the fill and drain plugs. As a couple of other posters have stated my plugs were barely more than finger tight. They both have some type of plastic washer and hand drawn lines on them that lined up with the housing. Has there been a change from the 20 lb/ft spec I have seen in the How-To on this forum or were mine way to loose? Thanks
Can anyone that has done a rear differential lube change confirm that their car had plastic (nylon ?) washers and 20 lb/ft of torque did not destroy them?
I just tightened mine as tight as I could with a 6 inch wrench.
Been almost 3 years and no sign of any leaks.
The nylon washer locks the plug without being overly tight.
When I removed the plugs from the factory, they actually did not seem very tight, but they did not fall out.
For those who are also looking for an answer, I just finished changing out the rear differential with new factory fluid. 20 lb/ft on the torque wrench does not damage the nylon washers.
