I am sure this subject has been covered. However I would like to share and know other peoples experience. I have an ECS supercharged m7, I bought some Mickey Thompson ET streets drag radials 305/35/18 on c5 z06 replica wheels, front wheels and tires are the stock 19 with michelin pilot super sport. Today I drove my car and I felt it all over the place even while cruising at 75mph it felt somewhat scarys the higher the speed the floatier it feels, like the tires are not on the ground, I am not sure if its because of the cold weather 61* (YES in Texas thats cold).
I decided to do some runs with a good buddy of mine, while launching the tires and the car felt OK, at the peak of 2nd gear the car could already feel floaty at over 100mph i felt like any slight move to the steering wheel would cause me to hydroplane. Any advise ? is it the cold weather? I also noticed a couple of weeks ago while taking a normal turn traction control kicked in (wasnt pushing the car at all).
Some people have had the same problem and claim the cure is to go with a skinny front tire. The rears are pushing the car around.
Air the fronts up to 40-45 PSI and try it again.
Odly enough less air pressure in the mickeys calmed mine down. I ran as much as 30 psi and they would wander all over the place. If I drop them down to 20 psi cold they settle down.
I run Nitto Invo's on the front and MT ET SS Drags on the rear. Both STOCK sizes for my C7 Z06. No issues whatsoever with this combo. I do AutoX, Drag Strip Runs, and constantly drive from NC to GA. Smooth and quiet; no issues with vibration or becoming squirrelly at any speed. If you go through and look at some of the threads - it appears the most common problem is people still try to use the Run-Flats up front. I can see super hard front tires and super soft rear tires causing havoc on handling but I am no tire expert. I mounted, road force balanced, and had a fresh alignment done all at once. I currently have approx. 7,000 miles on these and still love them.
