Ok guys I need some help. I'm installing m MGW shifter today and have been following the video instructions on their site. However, their instructions don't show how to get the factory shifter linkage box out/off of the torque tube. I've removed the 3 t40 bolts but it still wont come out. What am I missing?

djpelosi, Just lift the stock factory box up and pull it off the linkage rod that runs back to the transmission.
It wouldn't come out. I ended up having to put the shifter back in (not bolting it in), and move it around in different gears before it would come out of the linkage, then I was able to pull up and take it out. Thanks!
Very interested to hear how you like it. I find the stock to be very sloppy. I have a Pro 5.0 with Short Stick in my Z28, and it's like shifting a shifter kart. Short, snappy, positive. Looking to upgrade the C7..
Highly recommend getting a heavy shift **** to go with it. I have the exposed rod style MGW which is 3/8-16 threads. M10x1.5 threaded shift ***** are way more common and happen to thread onto 3/8-16 well enough to work when you tighten the locking nut. M10x1.5 will not screw into 3/8-16 but it does work the other way with the clearances.

I love it. I had a 2010 LS3 Camaro with a Hurst short throw in it so I was already used to driving with a short throw. I heard so many good things about the MGW that I went ahead and put that on the vette. To be honest, I don't really feel much of a difference between the Hurst and the MGW. The only real difference is the MGW seems to be a lot quieter. I would highly recommend.

Yes, because their instructions state to put it in a different gear to get the console off easier, but never said to put it back in neutral. Either way, it wouldn't come out in neutral either. I had to shift it to like 3 different gears to finally get it to come out.

I just installed a black flat stick MGW with the black **** in my ‘18 GS. Took my time and aligned / tightened everything obsessively. An absolutely enormous difference to shift quality! My stock shifter was atrocious, changed to Royal Purple Synchromax first thinking the gnashing and nibbling was internal, made no difference at all. Kept seeing people recommend the MGW for an improvement but that seemed counter intuitive since short shift kits usually exacerbate existing issues with shift quality (as was the case with my 911). However it’s more of an alignment and tolerance issue with the factory parts that leads to (at least in my case) the worst shift quality I’ve ever experienced in a new car. The MGW shifter instantly cured the problem. Installed on Friday and did back to back track days at Gateway Motorsports Park this weeekend with NASA. Shifting was a pleasure compared to the seven sessions I did at NCM last month with the factory gear mangler installed. As everyone who has put one in seems to say...best $400 I’ve spent on my Vette, by far.

Thats strange I installed mine completely in nuetral but haven’t been able to drive it yet...damn weather
Kind of a highjack but here it goes. What is the reason for all of the extra heat installation when installing the MGW?
The only thing which makes any sense to me is the more solid bushings in the shifter box could bind when too hot where the factory ones can tolerate the heat.

Well, there's two different types going in. One is heat shield material, the other is sound dampening material. It's not a required step to install either, but does help with noise and heat coming through the shifter area. It's more of an "if you're there, might as well just do it" kind of thing, but not a necessity. Just helps a little with heat and road/shifter noise.

This was my take away as well, more so for sound and comfort and replacing that second rubber shield with sound deadening at the source. They know how picky we are
Is there a difference (besides the look) between the flat stick and the regular short throw MGW shifters?
I had the same question before I purchased. I called MGW and they said there is no mechanical difference between the flat stick and the regular, it's purely cosmetic.

Anyone try any other short throw options for the c7? I don't see many out there. I need to get one. I HATE how the car grinds / nibbles what ever the F people call it. HATE it.
Glad to see this fixes those issues. I am also going to switch to D4...it is waiting for me in the garage to swap the fluid.

I think the only other options right now are Hinson, B&M and Hurst. You'll find far more people using the MGW than the others. I've read tons of great reviews for the MGW which is why I ended up going with them.
