Rear clutch pump

If you have the electronic limited slip differential, then yes there is a separate reservoir for the eLSD clutch packs and there is a "rear differential clutch control module" pump/solenoid that needs to be cycled to bleed the system when you change the fluid. So they might not be blowing smoke up your butt to get some big service $$$. How did they determine it was the pump?

The service rear axle light came on the display. They have already replaced the transaxles when they were trying to solve the shuddering problem. They now have change the fluid with this new stuff that came out in Feb. Thank goodness this has all been under warranty.

Sorry, not much more I can offer. Hopefully they checked the fluid level in the differential (not the eLSD clutch pack unit). The factory tends to underfill them. The "new stuff" you mention that came out in February is trans fluid, guessing you have an A8. Good luck and I hope they get it resolved for you.
