I own a 2015 Z-51 Vert...and have an extended warranty. I am after a more aggressive exhaust note but not an overwhelming one. I am aiming not to void my warranty but want a few more hp and a nicer sound. So far I have added AWE's performance "X" pipe and have a Vararam intake on order. I am wondering if anyone has done the same or similar in addition to the AWE Touring valve back exhaust...the x pipe which was recommended here in the forum was an easy install and a perfect fit...with a noticeable difference in sound while in sport mode. Very happy thus far with the recommendations from the forum...looking for further comments on the valve back exhaust from the same manufacturer. Also interested in comments on the ease or difficulty of installation....does the rear bumper wrap have to come off and be reinstalled??? Thanks in advance gentlemen!
I had a corsa extreme on my 2016 and liked it with basically the same mods you have. it is quiet at cruise with no drone but gets quite loud at full throttle but not crazy. I now have 2 inch headers with off road x pipe and it is still kind of quiet at cruise rpms with no drone but is very loud to the point you will scare people when you floor it as well as attract the attn. of every cop in the area. no hiding with it. my wife is running a muffler delete set up that sounds nice and deep and gets loud with little drone at all but it is with the stock x-pipe, with an aftermarket x-pipe it will be about 20% louder. the awe will sound similar to the muffler delete set up but with a little more tuned quality. corsa is a little raspy higher pitched in tone with no drone, awe touring is a little lower pitched less rasp, muffler delete = inboard motorboat sound. depends on what you like. youtube will give you a little idea but you really cant hear the bass or loudness of each system to do it justice. I am considering the awe touring to tame the headers down some. before you pull the trigger try to find some guys close to you that have different sets ups or the set up you are wanting and listen to them in person.
That's an interesting question Dave...I am actually not sure....I was researching this as I have been made aware that there are in sorts two different valve switches in a sense...I have a Z-51 A8...it does have the electronic switching that enables me to choose what I want as far as the settings for the exhaust...track, sport, touring etc. independently of the handling mode...I have personally had my Vette up in the air on a lift only once to exchange the "x" pipe....and that was before I had heard of the NPP vs the other type...I may be way off on the whole thing too LOL...everyone deserves a chance to learn...any help would be appreciated...
There are two sets of valves, one set is the afm and it is hard to see but it is in front of the axles. The npp valves are at the muffler and can be seen just behind the exhaust tips. The npp tips are flaired the non npp are not.
Ed , if you have NPP which I am confident you do if you have a Z51, pull the NPP fuse whixh is located under the hood, this will keep the valves open all the time
When you use the settings in the radio, even though you have them set to open all the time , the control module will still close them under certain conditions
Pull the fuse and see what you think before spending a whole lot of money on aftermarket exhaust that might not be any louder than what you have . If you like what you hear they you should invest in a mild to wild switch which will give you the option to keep the valves open or close them when you want quiet.... my mild to wild is slaved tobthe buttons on my sun visor....
NPP along with the catless x pipe , Vararam and mild to wild switch , now my car sounds like a vette should have sounded when it rolled off the showroom floor plus I have the option of closing the valves when we go on a long trip
Thanks! I'll do some searching on the lower fascia removal...
no need to remove , you can see the NPP valves from the back just by bending down and looking at the outboard pipes, the actuators are mounted right on the pipe just behind the trumpets
Plus as the post above states , the NPP trumpets are much bigger than the non NPP
Dave
I have the NPP...mine looks like the bottom pic from 2000FRCZ19....thanks to the both of you for your help! Dave once again...you have legit point! I'll try this...I have mine set to track for the exhaust setting and I do hear it go in and out frequently regardless of my setting...be back in touch after I try this! Won't be today...its raining here in Gainesville...was wondering about the mild to wild thing too...now I understand what it does...may just opt for it.
Some of your exhaust pitch change you are hearing in track mode can come from it being an a8, the afm valves will close when your car goes into 4v. My wife's a8 with muffler delete gets the pitch change when not in paddle mode. In auto mode the afm works in all settings. My m7 has no pitch change due to the afm not activating unless in eco mode and I never run in eco.
I am with Dave also. Try fuse and mild to wild, the npp is a great set up. Aftermarket isn't much louder than the npp and you will save a ton of cash. You will also not have to pull rear fascia if you are not changing mufflers.
