Can the battery in the TPS be replaced without breaking the bead on the tire? Easy question! I'm celebrating my 6th year anniversary of taking delivery of my C7 on Saturday, the 9th. I'm probably getting to the end of battery life in the TPS batteries so I ask before the day of doom arrives!
Batteries can be replaced?
New TPS unit needs to be installed?
Interesting question. Made me Google a bit. Seems the TPS is a sealed unit and the battery is potted inside, requiring replacement of the entire sensor, Obviously this would require breaking the tire bead. On the bight side, battery life averages 5 to 12 years depending on various conditions.
order new ones from your dealer... expensive yes but no problems with working with your vette. Buy cheap ones off Amazon and you will have problems getting them recognized. I just put 4 new ones on the new rims I put on my 2014 Z51 and my installer said cheap ones are a nightmare..... you takes your chances! CJ
Speaking from experience from rebuilding TPM's, these sensors are not worth the time. They are cheap at less than 40 bucks and could easily break upon tear down. There is no way to remove one from any wheel without breaking the bead. Just be glad they are not as expensive as the early C5 sensors, which were over 100 dollars each. Those are worth rebuilding, I have done many and even published an article on it years ago. They generally last much longer than 5 years although I can't speak to the C7 ones just yet. The C4 sensors did not even have batteries and each wheel had a unique one. That system proved to be a pain and they were strapped to the wheel bells. I try to pick them up when I see them available but people overcharge for them because they do not know how to change their resistance value and think they are gold. But I digress.
